One person was found alive overnight at the site of a collapsed apartment building in Iowa, bringing the total number of people rescued to eight, as the frantic search for survivors continued Monday morning.

Officials have not released details about how many people were injured or how many are unaccounted for, but Davenport Chief Mike Carlsten said the rescue mission will soon turn into a recovery mission. No deaths have been reported.

Seven people were rescued from the building last night after a portion of it came crashing down about 5pm. About a dozen people were helped from the collapse with an air ambulance at the scene, officials said.

'No known individuals are trapped in that facility,' Carlsten added, speaking of the building on Main Street in Davenport where owners were under city orders to make upgrades.

'The building is structurally unsound, is posing a risk to responders,' Chief Carlsten said, adding that rescue crews with search dogs are on the scene.

It was revealed to CNN that tenants of the building had made 'numerous complaints to city officials' and that the city inspector came out several times. The owners had permits in place to make upgrades to the exterior of the building. But it's still unclear what exactly led to the collapse.

Residents in the building had reportedly complained for years about it needing repairs. City leaders said the building had permits to make the fixes when the collapse happened.

Earlier, Carlsten said the back of the apartment complex collapsed and had separated from the building, which houses apartments on the upper floors and businesses on the ground level.

Authorities found a gas leak after the collapse, Carlsten said, while water also had leaked throughout the floors of the structure.

I watched video of the woman rescued this AM. She was standing and looked good for going through such an ordeal. I hope no major injuries and she fully recovers.

No surprise that complaints were made and feet dragged. The poor soul paying rent is the last to get listened to.

Tragic. Apparently they want to demolish the remaining structure asap because the whole building is considered unsafe. Some want them to delay hoping there's a chance survivors or remains can be found.

I'd say water leaks over time probably weakened the structure. Water leaks and freeze-thaw cycles. That damage should've come up on an inspection.

Speedy recovery to survivors and RIP those lost

The latest I saw is that they are using drones to see if they can locate anymore survivors. I don't know how long they will do that before they demolish the building. I think they said 5 people are still missing. I hope they didn't perish! Over the years there have been several reports of buildings collapsing or partially collapsing and becoming uninhabitable. It's a terrible situation to be in. Some people have no place to go! I wonder if the Red Cross or any other agency will step in to help these people?

Mr Wold was given a $300 fine for failing to keep the building “safe, sanitary and structurally sound condition,” WQAD reports.

Iowa officials say ‘computer glitch’ changed inspection record for collapsed Davenport building

When permit records for an Iowa building that collapsed this past weekend were mysteriously changed after the tragedy, city officials blamed a “computer glitch”. Skeptical members of the community aren’t convinced it was a mistake.

I found the above when looking for more info...... while 5 are not accounted for they only believe 2 are still in building .....with apartments it is often hard to know if a person is out of town for example.

$300 fine is low for a building that is unsanitary but "structural" issues should always be taken seriously ........ several survivors reported strong smell of gas before the collapse ......

i think there is an issue when things are only on computer if "glitches" are really change record to cover their behind. i have seen these glitches cover up things before....... yes a deep dive into versions and edits can be searched by IT but people seldom do it.
