Freeze Dried Food in a Pinch

Have any of you tried freeze dried food?

IMO, nothing beats fresh, but freeze dried food has a long storage life and it will keep you alive.

I wonder if I could get freeze dried wine?

You are talking to the freeze-dried, frozen goodies, canned goods, and homemade frozen entrees queen!

Sure, some things don't take to freezing well, but over the years I've found that pretty much everything still retains it's flavour.

I haven't tried dehydrated meat but TVP is not a bad substitute for ground beef in some sauces and casseroles.

I've cooked with tvp before. It's kinda like tofu in the sense that it absorbs the flavors of whatever it's added to.

I made chili with it. It's really good if you saute the tvp with the spices and then add it to the sauce.

I've often wanted to get me a nice Excalabur to try doing this, but I just don't have the room for it.

I do lots of vacuum sealing of dry goods and frozen goods, but never dehydrated.
