Every child should have the opportunity to have a hands on understanding of where food comes from.
It doesn’t have to be a huge garden, a few plants in the border around the house or in a pot on the deck.
When we were kids my grandfather showed us how to grow a pickle in a bottle…inexpensive fun…watching the cucumber grow before snipping the stem and filling the bottle with vinegar.
I don't recall having snacks very often growing up. But it wouldn't have been a fresh vegetable. Probably some chips, or I'd ride my bike to the 7-11 and buy a candy bar from my weekly allowance. Sometmes, the ice cream truck came by in the afternoon.
This was a staple in our household.
My dad had quite the variety of vegetables growing in the yard.
Only thing was, I could not eat tomatoes, and still can not. The acid reflux is killer.
