Friend won't fix email

When I try to send her a message, I get a delivery failure notice back. I talked to her by phone just before Thanksgiving and she admitted there's a problem. I suggested she contact the email provider or get a new email account. She hemmed and hawed. I again tried today to send her an email and there's still a delivery problem. She's just like me - procrastinator extraordinaire. I hesitate to call her and gripe - 1) she's stone deaf and I have to repeat and repeat myself and it's exhausting. 2) she won't do anything anyway. 3) I'll be on the phone for over an hour because of reason #1 and we get doing down so many rabbit trails.

..are you sure she hasn't just blocked you ?

I don't see why she would. She calls me every now and then, so it's not like she didn't want top communicate. I just looked up her service and Spectrum says it's discontinued supporting RoadRunner emails in October last year.

just seems odd that she's reluctant to get it fixed, or change to another server

She could set up a Gmail or Protonmail account in a few minutes and be talking with you again in no time (if she doesn't want to deal with her ISP... I wouldn't either, frankly... I use free emails and the one that comes with my provider has not been used. Ever.)

Forget e-mail, use texting instead, that's if she has a cell phone. For some reason I could never fathom e-mail, I needed an email address to join this forum, I think my wife might have set it up for me, but despite never sending an email, never giving out an email address, there's a little icon that tells me that I have over 700 emails, unread. Well there you go!

l much rather talk on the phone than communicate by email except of course if there's a hearing problem.

She needs one of those house phones that has the display showing the conversation on a little screen. I think they have a red light that shows when the telephone rings. I also do not have a cell phone, just a land line but I am not hard of hearing yet.

I have a similar situation, only she's nowhere near age 91. We used to work at the same company. Since retirement, she has sent me (as part of a group list) an inspirational email every day. I read them, but I normally don't reply, nor does she expect me to. I mail her a birthday card every year, and sometimes she sends me one.

I found one of her emails had something I wanted to comment on, so I did reply, and it bounced back as undeliverable. The same thing happed after 2 more tries.

I don't have her phone number anymore, or she changed numbers, so, I mailed a snail mail letter to her home address asking if she might know what was wrong that my emails wouldn't go through. That was a month ago, and she didn't reply. She just keeps sending her inspirational emails, which really mean nothing at all to me anymore (if she has blocked me or something).

Unless something changes from her side, I figure she has no interest in staying in touch, and I won't be doing anything else to fix the issue.

I'm not suggesting you should see things the way I do, but this is still kind of fresh on my mind, and I just wanted to get it out. for what it's worth.

How true this is. My RR disappear overnight. I have spent the last 6 months trying to change my new email to my accounts. No notice, no nothing. 😡

Maybe she's getting to the age where she's finding dealing with that kind of stuff a little intimidating. I've felt that a couple times on things that I used to do without thinking. Like putting up a new blind (finding studs, measuring, using anchors, etc.). I've had a moment or two of hesitation and had to remind myself that 'I can do this'.

Unfortunately those phones are not available in Canada.
I sure could use one.
Mobile phone calls coming in on a land line are a nightmare for me with hearing aids
Maybe you should contact the support group for the deaf. Many years ago, my aunt had a deaf foster daughter and they communicated with a machine that translated the call into text. They lived in Alberta so maybe your province has the same kind of deaf community that you can contact.

I did a search so try this number.....To make a phone call in Ontario if you are deaf or hard of hearing, you can use the TTY relay service by dialing 711 from a telephone or TTY. You can also use Bell's TTY relay service by calling 1 800 855-0511.

Me, too!

Thanks for reply.
I can make calls anywhere in Canada and U.S with my Bell plan.
My hearing loss is now associated with age. I can still hear without the aids. The trouble is conversation.
The volume with hearing aids is no problem it is definition.

Ontario has nothing to assist in telephone translating to text conversations like the U.S does.
Most of the auditory problems are related to landline and mobile networks.
My audiologist says she has more complaints about that than anything else and unfortunately cannot help.

My sister lives in California and since she now only uses her mobile conversations are sometimes impossible.
I can hear other sounds in background with my landline but she can hear me without any disturbance.
She does have trouble with people in other states and wishes she still had her landline.
My mobile is only for texting, local calls and when I go out of course it goes with me for emergency.

I expect Bell and others will eventually get around to handling the translation to text directly on phone.

This reply has strayed from OP subject so will close with thanks again:)

I'm really surprised that they don't have some kind of machine to do that translation. Something that you can have in your home you know. Who would have guessed that Alberta would be a step ahead on something like that!

My acquaintance just called to wish me a happy new year and asked if I had tried her email. I said that I had and it just comes back as undeliverable. She said she's been trying to get a friend or relative to help her with it. I mentioned that Spectrum is no longer supporting Road Runner email accounts and suggested she get one with Yahoo or Gmail. She doesn't want those, she wants her old email to work. Then I said to call Spectrum and have them help her. I received an emphatic "NO!" If Spectrum has discontinued that email service, no amount of outside help is going to get it to work. So I guess I will not be able to contact her online.

Some folks are really stubborn aren't they? My old mom's tv cable box quit working when two cable companies merged and she refuses to get a new box. She used to love watching news all day long so it's a big deal for her. But instead, she just switched to an old radio that picks up a few crummy local stations just because she's stubborn. Nope, not getting a new box even if it means my 'lifestyle' changes.
