I often talk about my daughter. She's going to high school this year. I was happy because she has a good friend who went there last year and has been her friend for a long time. Today she told me that Caryn "got mad at her teachers and had to go to the hospital and now she can't be in school anymore". My girl is cognitively about seven years old. So basically she was describing Caryn having a nervous breakdown...sad for Caryn and sad for my girl too.

That is sad, although maybe rather than a nervous breakdown, maybe she had a violent episode or something and needs to attend a school that is equipped to handle that kind of behavior. In any case, yes,it is sad for her and your daughter.

Is your daughter in special ed classes? Will she be in a regular high school? It's hard enough to make friends in general. Is your daughter able to visit her friend? That could help. Are there programs through the YWCA or other such programs for kids with your daughter's issues? I'm just trying to brain storm to see if I can come up with something. I don't know what's available in NJ.

My girl was in a mixed grade class. She will be in another assisted class in high school. But I hoped she would have at least one close buddy for the beginning in September.
