Frozen vegetables may be better than fresh

So says a authoritative environmental magazine this month.
This is because when fresh vegetables and some fruit sit too long
on grocery shelves they can lose nutrients, especially when the
produce is shipped from another country,. Fast frozen
corn and brocolli etc. retain their nutrients

I eat frozen corn and like it.

I agree! Some frozen items may get little soggy, like Brussels sprouts, but still taste delicious. I've never seen frozen asparagus, tho'.

I've seen that information in other sources too. Good to hear, as frozen is easier on planning a food budget when you only shop every couple weeks, for one.
Fresh always needs a fairly quick meal plan.

Another vote for frozen vegetables over the majority of fresh grocery store vegetables. I normally buy the microwave/steam bags from the local Aldi.

I do enjoy locally grown produce when it's available in season. Nothing beats a locally grown tomato or an ear of fresh sweet corn that has been picked minutes before it goes into the pot .

Learned this in grad school micronutrients class in the 90s. Freezing facilities are usually located near fields and orchards so foods don't lose nutrient value in transient. I use mostly home grown or frozen. If I'm looking for a particular 'fresh' texture/taste or a food that doesn't freeze well, I'll buy it at the grocery.
