Kroger ad for this week featured Petite Sirloin Steak for $2.97 lb.
Also 80% lean ground beef for $3.97 lb.
Usually pre packaged steak include some steak slices [ugly] that aren't really great for BBQ'ing or pan frying. But not a problem since those are useable if you know how to.
Buying 20lbs. will yield a lot of meals & and vacumm sealing insures freshness for a really long time. The frugal part is in knowing how to divide the steak.
1. Thick slices can be cut in half to make Puerto Rican style steak, or halved again down the length breaded for empanada. Thick can also be pan fried, air fried or BBQ'ed.
2. Ugly cubed for beef stroganoff, in a chefs salad. Ground for Swiss cheese, mushroom, sirloin burgers, mixed with ground pork for meatloaf or meatballs.
So for $1.00 a lb. less than 80% ground beef that is ground from beef scraps I get multiple meal ability from USDA choice steak at a price that is about $5.00 a lb. than it is usually sold for.
