It is the season for fruitcake, once again. I LOVE fruit. I like cake. Why do I get sick at the thought of fruitcake? It doesn't make sense but I do. How do you feel about this seasonal treat / punishment? Or is fruitcake just the Christmas edition of candy corn, which no one likes either? :ROFLMAO:

It's what people had before candy bars. Imagine your treats were either an apple, maybe an orange, or possibly some maple candy. Then on a special occasion... fruitcake! Candied fruit and nuts! Rich and heavy brandy-soaked cake!
I have no problem imagining this because as I said, I LOVE fruit. So eating apples and oranges would be no penance for me. I like cake too. But shove them together and pour alcohol all over it and I'm one sick lady.

You're not alone. I eat fruit and cake also but I hate what they call "fruit cake". I never have liked it.

Every time I've had fruitcake in the past, it was dry and horrible and the fruit in it was tough and equally dry, so I'm not a fan either. It must be that you have to eat it fresh from the oven or something and I've just never gotten lucky that way.

I love fruitcake , too ! My mom always bought a fruitcake for the Christmas holidays . I remember at first, I didn’t like the candied fruit because it didn’t taste like real fruit tasted, especially the cherries. I wanted them to taste like maraschino cherries, which i dearly loved !
Anyway, I got used to the taste of the candied fruit, and I always try to find at least a small fruit cake to have around Christmas . Usually after the new year , all of the holiday foods leftover go on sale, so if I find that, then I get more fruitcake and freeze some.

Many years ago, I took over the fruitcake making from my grandmother, using her recipe. I did it for a few years until it just got too hard (I'd start the annual fruitcake marathon when I got home from work on Friday and would still be baking Sunday night) and waaaay too expensive to continue.

I have to say, they were very good fruitcakes and my family loved them. One of my sisters used hers as the top layer of her wedding cake.

I love a good fruitcake. There are a lot of fruitcakes out there that aren't good.

In the past, we've had fruitcake made by monks in a Monastery in Quebec, I think it was. Very moist and tasty. We also have been gifted homemade fruitcake, from a relative, which is also excellent.

Dave loves it. I don’t. That artificially colored candies fruit is just yuck. Dave, on the other hand, buys some just to eat it by the spoonful.
