Frustrations With Trying to Communicate on the Internet

...When I first stuck my toe in to test the waters on the internet I wanted to just talk with people. Had pen-pals when I was younger and this seemed like the perfect modern solution. It was interesting at first. People came and went. Then it got weird. Alas, the world is a very strange place.
Same here. For me, it got a lot worse than weird, it was calamitous. I posted about it a few weeks ago on my diary here on SF.

It's all good now, though. But this is the only social site I use.

If I could be irritated...this would...a thread exists on a certain subject, then along comes another poster creating another thread with the same topic although the first thread is clearly visible in the "latest posts" ...does that make any sense? Not in my opinion...it is no wonder communication is difficult for some     and some people feel the need to be blatantly rude when you point it out!

@Ruthanne You‘re not the only one who gets frustrated. It happens on every single site.

This. And then they start replying without even the courtesy of at least reading what the OP wrote. IMO, these people are self-centred and think only their opinion needs to be heard.
I think you are right about skimming. I noticed years ago when still in business that people don't READ anymore, just skim. I guess that's because the world is too fast. I don't know the answer.

That was me in graduate school standing outside the classroom skimming the reading assignment . . . Carried a 4.0 so I guess it worked.

As for the internet I believe you are correct about the world being so fast. People seem to want their junk food ideas delivered in greasy bitesized choking bits and pieces without the necessary time and energy expended to digest any worthwhile thoughts. Alas, so goes humanity.

Yes, and for them that may be most unfortunate.

What I hate the most is thread hijacking. It doesn't happen in real life conversation.

I want your friends!!! It does to me irl all the time!

I’m just kidding. 😂 Mostly anyway.

I will begin a convo with someone about .... ah hell who knows? 🤷‍♀️ let’s say vacation plans, and in 10 minutes or less we’re talking about the flat tire they got on the way home from work!

And sometimes we run out of patience, I understand.
