Is Australia part of Oceania? How about New Zealand? Are they a continent as well. If not why not. Same topography as Australia?

Oceania is just a region that is used by news media to locate stories. New Zealand is a country with two major islands. It lies beyond the continental shelf of Australia. Although it is sometimes referred to as part of Australasia that term has no real validity. NZ is on the Pacific rime of fire.

A better definition of Oceania is this

Oceania is a geographic region comprising Melanesia, Micronesia, Polynesia and Australasia (which includes the Australian continent).
