Gas prices to hit $6 by summer

These soaring fossil fuel prices are the result of government attempts to force a move towards Clean Energy, IMO. However, we are a Long Way from being able to transition smoothly to electric vehicles, etc. As a result, we are going to take a major hit to our wallets, with little being accomplished, in the near term.

I think there is going to be a substantial "backlash" in this Falls elections.

I paid $5.69 here in central California the other day.
That hurt!
That's what I'm paying, too. Diesel is already well over $6.00/gallon in California.

This situation can be blamed equally on both dominant political parties. Crude oil (commodity) price is near an all-time high and international oil companies are reporting record profits. US politicians have little to no influence over the cost of crude - it's set by global markets.

As for the US and other countries moving from filthy coal and oil and toward renewable energy, if not now, when? There'll never be a convenient time to move from fossil fuels. The results of global warming are upon us and getting worse in a hurry. How dire must it be before we change our collective ways?

Woe to our children and grandchildren if we don't drastically and quickly cut our dependence on fossil fuels. They'll quite rightly hate us for our blithe, selfish willingness to trade their future (and the future of many other species) for our own comfort and billionaires' profits.

Humanity's poor stewardship of this planet over the past 100 years is truly nothing short of appalling.

Human activity, over the past 100+ years has created environmental issues that Will NOT be quickly resolved. Even if All fossil fuel usage were banned today, current weather patterns, etc., would still continue to worsen. We are already AT, or Very Near to the "tipping point" where virtually anything we might do is likely to make little change in what the future holds for humanity.

I would love to see everyone buying electric vehicles, and huge solar/wind farms generating limitless energy, But we are decades away from such a scenario. Anyone who thinks we can abandon fossil fuel use anytime within the next 20, 30, maybe even 50 years is Dreaming.

Instead, we are going to see climbing temperatures, more drastic storms and droughts. Here, in the U.S. the entire SW is going to turn into a desert, and places like LA, Las Vegas, Phoenix, etc., will see an increasing migration North and East, as water becomes almost unavailable.

Cutting back on oil production, and closing refineries, etc., at this point in time, is going to do Nothing other than accelerate the growing disparity in wealth, and put even more people into poverty.

So many complain about the cost of energy but still overlook the fact that it's a global commodity. European countries have been talking about cutting back or banning Russian oil/gas but there is no immediate alternative. Just talking about it triggers global spikes in pricing because oil/gas is speculative. Good luck to many of the European countries trying to replace up to 40% of oil/gas imports.

The POTUS stated that there would be pain when he initiated all the sanctions. I think most people allowed that info to go through one ear and out the other. Can't have it both ways. Those sanctions don't just hurt Russia, all other countries are feeling economic pain.

The oil/gas in the US don't belong to the government. It belongs to the oil companies. Forget patriotism, they are in the business to make money. The greater the demand and limits on supply, work best for continued record profits.

Russia closed the Black Sea port in the Ukraine. Russia won't allow any exports of Ukrainian grain, fertilizer and etc. Unless there's something in it for Russia (like removal of sanctions), why would they unblock it? That's bad news for many countries, especially poor ones.

Today, I paid $4.29 a gallon and will pay $6 if it gets that high. My vehicle won't move without gas so it is what it is. No different than I will continue to water my grass regardless of whatever the city is charging for water.

I absolutely agree.

Prices at the pump are already at record highs, averaging more than $4.50 per gallon for the first time ever. This could be just the beginning of the increases
The UK pays double that. Metrification, a great way to conceal true cost. Fossil fuel costs £9 a gallon at the pump, that might start a riot, let's standardise fuel and measurement. UK adopts metrification, to keep in line line with European countries, fuel is now advertised in litres. So £9 @ gallon becomes £2 @ litre, still expensive but how clever to con most motorists who can't count past the number of fingers on each hand.

By the way, our fuel is both the cheapest and most expensive in Europe. That's because we pay £2.63 an imperial gallon in fuel tax. Value Added Tax at 20% is also charged on the price of the fuel and on the duty. Which means we pay a tax on a tax. They have us by the short & curlies.

I have no problem with going green, but why couldn’t we have made a plan or timeline and do so much at a time? Why try to turn us 180 all at once? The company that does my gardening in Florida, notified me on Monday that he is requesting an additional $5.00 per month to cover the cost of gas and also he is trying to ‘slowly’ convert his gas equipment to electric. Since he requested it, I will oblige him. What he is asking and doing sounds reasonable to me. I think he has a plan in place.
Same here. The company that cuts my lawn not only raised the price per cut, they now charge a “gas surcharge” of $6.00 per cut! I know they have to use gas to get to my property, but they aren't using $6.00 worth to cut it per week. My trash removal service has also added a gas surcharge of $9.00 plus an environmental/regulatory charge of $2.00. They charge quarterly. Soon they'll be charging us just to L:oops::oops:k at the gas pump.

And Calif adds additional tax and "surcharges" - road tax, and believe it or not, a pollutants charge. We pay for the right to pollute.

I signed a contract for one year at a given price per visit. He mows, edges, trims the shrubs if needed and so on. So, when he asked if I would ‘contribute’ an extra $5 per visit due to the increase in gas price, I was OK with that. He does a very good job.

If my service included edging and shrub trimming, it would be more acceptable. They want $500.00 to "trim" my shrubs. I trim them myself. :)

There are two men from the same landscaping company that comes to the Florida house. The one fellow just mows. The other fellow does the edging and trimming. He showed me his certificate stating that he was a certified Arborist. He also does other homes in our development.

$7.56 CA = $5.90 US, so roughly the same as California.
It's getting spendy, that's for sure.
I have a friend who I was speaking with just a little while ago. Now, you have to realize that this man is a bit eccentric. He told me that he didn’t care about the price, just as long as he could get it without having to wait in line.

Just filled up yesterday at $3.99 per gal. Last two prices I paid recently were $3.95 and $3.93 per gal. Would also prefer to pay a few cents more than wait in a line for gas. I have not had to pay $4 or more yet in my state.

With Summer vacation season just starting, I'm getting mentally prepared to see gas prices rise to at least $5/gal...and maybe as high as 6, until Fall arrives. The Only "tool" we have is to limit the driving as much as possible, and hopefully see a lower Demand for fuel. Those who live in the suburbs and drive to/from work, and don't need their cars during the day should be looking for ride sharing, and public transportation, etc.

Personally, I can't help believing that there isn't some "manipulation" going on in the oil markets. The amount of crude oil production took a nose dive in 2020, but has still been higher than production during 2018. I don't think we are being told the real truth....but then, that is often the case....either the oil industry, or the government...perhaps both...are putting the screws to the people....again.
