I love gatoraid especially the fruit punch and drink it all the time,I probably drink about 32 fl oz within in 24 hours.
Now someone tells me thats not good to drink as a senior as it may affect the heart.
WHAT???
Looking it up on google I dont see anything about the heart.
I drink a lot of water but like gatoraid better.
Nothing in the nutrition sheet that I should worry about...right?
total Fat.Og
sodium 160mg
potassium 45mg
carbohydrate 21g
sugar 21g
protein 0g
calories 80

That stuff has an awful after taste. Never cared for it from the beginning. I'll choose cool clean water anytime.

I agree, too much salt, sugar and dextrose, and carbs. If my math is correct, and you drink 32 oz. per day of Gatorade, these are the total numbers. You have to add all the other foods and drinks you ingest, and add those numbers every day to the Gatorade content. Not heart healthy, and does not promote general health either. Salt can raise your blood pressure, and sugar causes inflammation. Most diseases of the body are caused or result in inflammation.

Serving size is 12 oz., so these #s are for 32 ounces:

Sodium = 427 mg

Carbs = 56 grams

Sugars (+ dextrose/glucose) = 56 grams

One of the major problems with Gatorade besides the high sugar and salt contact has been the addition of BVO, Brominated Veg. oil. Sounds fairly harmless I know, but it is also used as a flame retardant. It is known to build up in the body and has been linked to neurological disorders and other things. It is there to prevent the flavors from separating and as a preservative. It has been banned in Europe and some countries. The problem is it is in a lot of other drinks like Mountain Dew. It was suppose to be phased out of Gatorade last year. However, I went to the store today and it is still listed on some of the bottles there. I prefer to drink filtered water, organic milk, tea, and coffee.

Interesting about Pepsico (makers of Gatorade) - they agreed to remove it from Gatorade but not from Mountain Dew.

Wonder what their thinking is with that?

Why would an ordinary person, going about on a normal days activity need Gatorade? YOU DON'T
It was made for high actives sports people to quickly replace energy levels>>>Hence the high Sugar & salt content.
From memory it was the American Footballers that first used Gatorade. Water is the best way to hydrate a normal person!!

I drank it simply cause I liked it and now this BVO makes me want to check all this out,I can always go back to my Canada Dry Ginger ale.

Thanks GDAD for that info.

Gatorade use to be giving out to patiences in the hospital for the potassium content.

Good way to get Potassium: Eat a Banana.
There is a Cricket Player(Like Baseball) out here in Australia. He is a Vegan & while he is out fielding & Bowling(pitching) in a day he would
consume up to 17 Bananas, to maintain his potassium levels & strength.That is besides the fluid replacements he takes!
