actor,Gavin MacLeod who co starred in 2 classic sitcoms,died yesterday in Palm Springs,Calif age 90
His best known TV roles were:
"Murray Slaughter' the wise cracking sportswriter on "Mary Tyler Moore Show" '70-'77,who loved to kid the pompous anchorman,'Ted Baxter"{late Ted Knight}
'Capt Merrill Stubing' on ABC's "The Love Boat' '77-'86
He also appeared on McHale's Navy 'Joe Haines' from '62-'64
I read Gavin's memoir a couple yrs ago'This Is Your Captain Speaking' interesting book,his real name was Allan See
Ed Asner,Betty White are the remaining cast members from MTM still with us
Gavin is survived by his 2nd wife,Patti 4 kids,10 grand children

I always liked him. Seemed like a good guy in his roles and in his interviews. RIP, Gavin.
 
"Gavin was actually born Allan See to parents Margaret and George See on February 28, 1931 in Mount Kisco, New York. He explained in his book that he “felt as if my name was getting in the way of my success” and “wasn’t strong enough,” therefore going with Gavin MacLeod. The name was inspired by his drama teacher Beatrice MacLeod and a character on the show Climax called Gavin".

Over the past few months I've been watching old episodes of The Love Boat and still have several episodes to go. I think I'm enjoying the show more now than I did when it came out. I never realized back in the day what a nice looking man Gavin McLeod is. I love his smile in the opening credits. I also enjoyed watching the cast reunion video. Rest in Paradise Mr. McLeod.
