Gemini Man - The idea. The concept. The morals.

I suffer from a fear of people, otherwise known as social anxiety disorder, so if there was a way to rid myself of that fear, my life would be completely different for the better. I'd rather not go into the causes at this point, though.
Thank you for your reply!

I have a similar problem. Not to the degree of yours but very close, so I can feel how you feel. I don't know if you have talked to professionals about this and what kind of treatment you received, if any. I'm not a professional but I have a feeling that if we work together we may be able to help each other. If you are interested please start a conversation with me and we take it from there.

Wasn't that done on the Star Trek series with Spock? No emotion, just logic. Wouldn't they find war illogical, though, and wind up finding ways not to serve?

Yes. But in this scenario war is as logical and real as it really is. The focus is not on eliminating war but whether cloned people could serve in the place of non-cloned (real) soldiers. Is it ethical to consider this? Since Dolly the sheep (the first mammal cloned from an adult somatic cell) cloning of humans seems to be a viable possibility. I'm not sure how viable is the editing of DNA, but if it was, the scenario could soon become real.

Depends upon how they feel. I don't mind. Everybody else enjoys some reason to be morally outraged. Let them worry about it.

Well, the scenario wants them deprived of any emotions. So...

I found your statement "Everybody else enjoys some reason to be morally outraged." interesting. Are you not morally outraged about anything?

This is something I've been dealing with since I was a little kid and now, at the age of 63, I have no hope remaining of ever overcoming it. I've tried everything including therapy and medication, but I'm too far gone. Alcohol used to work to some extent to help me handle being around people, but work has always been a problem since employers tend to frown upon employees getting drunk on the job.

I basically try to avoid people whenever possible except for online since it's not face-to-face. Hell is other people.

If you feel like sharing then the offer is still up. Feel free to start a conversation with me. I'm thousands of miles away from you. There's no chance to ever meet face-to-face! :)

I would have to say I am against the idea.
How can a soldier defend the weak with no empathy?
Not only that but what do you do with them after no more wars?

Interesting approach. Defending the weak with no empathy is easily done since they would blindly follow orders.
But the question what to do with them after the wars is difficult to answer.

Sociopaths make the best soldiers but they make lousy civilians. You don't want to buy a used car from a sociopath because they will screw you over, even if they don't need to to make the sale. But having a conscience in battle can be a hindrance. You want a killing machine — nothing less.

Maybe our current leaders have no answer to what to do with them when we're not at war, which is why we're in a perpetual state of war. Either that, or it's because there's a sh*tload of money to be made from wars.

You are right, I never thought of it that way, although I have my doubts about how they would behave in a trained unit as in one of many.
Would they have empathy for their fellow soldiers?

I don't think so. Empathy is one of the most rare emotions. If they could feel it it would apply to the enemy too.
