Gene Hackman and wife found dead in their home

The paragraph below is from Wikipedia:

"Indoors CO is one of the most acutely toxic contaminants affecting indoor air quality.
CO may be emitted from tobacco smoke and generated from malfunctioning fuel burning stoves (wood,
kerosene, natural gas, propane) and fuel burning heating systems (wood, oil, natural gas) and from blocked flues
connected to these appliances. Carbon monoxide poisoning is the most common type of fatal air poisoning in many countries."

As a child, I almost died from having a hard time breathing, especially up to age 5. Not so coincidentally my dad
was constantly smoking a pipe in the house, and I always hated to be around him, with that being one of the reasons.

TMZ (yeah, I know, but they're often accurate before other media reports) is now saying suspicious:

According to a search warrant, obtained by TMZ, a Santa Fe detective who sought a search warrant wrote in his affidavit, he believes "the death of the two deceased individuals to be suspicious enough in nature to require a thorough search and investigation because the reporting party found the front door of the residence unsecured and opened, deputies observed a healthy dog running loose on the property, another healthy dog near the deceased female, a deceased dog laying 10-15 feet from the deceased female in a closet of the bathroom, the heater being moved, the pill bottle being opened and pills scattered next to the female, the male decedent being located in a separate room of the residence, and no obvious signs of a gas leak."

Oh, yes. I have seen this happen. It is not a pretty sight to walk in on. People that are going south for the winter or anyone that is going to be gone for months should consider adding a CO detector and mount it near the fire detector.
I have seen several over the years, both accidental and on purpose. Worst was a family of 5 running a generator in the garage, kids 9 months to 6 years old. New codes here require all smoke detectors be wired together with one also being a CO detector.
I have also seen suicides were they also killed the pets.

TMZ is usually quick with news, but yet, most of the time on target.

Well with the discovery of the pill container it appears that the "plot is thickening".

About carbon monoxide leaks: in this case I'd find CO leak to be unlikely, I'm guessing Gene Hackman's house is professionally maintained.
Poor people / homeless persons using improperly heating sources are the usual victims.
