Or from the lack of water. I'm glad there is a reasonable explanation for the deaths.

Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome
The Coroner or a staff member will often use abbreviations when typing reports.

The state police has a booklet of medical acronyms, however, back when I first became a Trooper they were missing some terms/diseases, that we have today. For instance, HIV and AIDS. The book is bigger than it was 45+ years ago.

Hackman aged 95, was found in his Santa Fe home alongside his wife Betsy Arakawa, 63, and pet dog.

It does seem odd that no friend or relative would wonder what happened to them over that period of time. Perhaps, they had cut themselves off from others over time? Supposedly, he had three children from a previous marriage. I don't know. In any case all of us should make sure we have somebody who will raise an alarm if we suddenly seem to have fallen off the face of the earth. Somebody who is not living with us, that is.

I read time and time again about elites who find their homes ransacked, or wake up with a burglar or home invader(s) in their home.

We have cameras and alarm system on all doors and windows. At my age, I wear an around the neck alarm I can use to alert my wife if I fall or some other health problem hits me.

Tell me, why don't these millionaire people have at least the same, or even a neck worn broach to phone out to an emergency service? I think the reason is denial. Such does not happen to them. It only happens to those in the news. Unfortunately, many of these deniers might one day make the news themselves.

The circumstances of their deaths are both bizarre and very sad. It is thought that he was in the house where his wife lie dead for a whole week. i wondered how could that be. Then I saw that the residence is 9,000 square feet. An official further explained that with his advanced state of dementia he may not have been aware. It is also unlikely that he ate properly during that time. I still thought it odd that his wife didn't have any help come in on a more regular basis, even if it wasn't daily. If so, they would have been found sooner.

I was also puzzled about the pills being strewn on the counter. Before the timeline and likely series of events broke, I thought maybe he had died first and she committed suicide out of grief, using the pills. Apparently she had picked them up not long before she passed. Could the hantavirus' worst symptom have overtaken her so suddenly that she felt too weak to hold on to the pill bottle?

It was reported that no mice were in the house but were in other structures on the grounds and she may have cleaned them. I understand what may occurred with the dog, poor thing. His remains are being examined now too.

I think Hantavirus is similar to Weil's disease. We knew a guy who used to fish along the canals, he caught Weil's disease, very likely from contact with the canal water which contained rat's urine. Apparently it's not easy to catch, I think the figure is 50-80 cases a year, it's a shame that Betsy did not seek medical help as it is treatable and survivable but, obviously, she had no idea how ill she was.

well in their case I would assume because the wife was relatively young and healthy, most healthy people in their 60's wouldnt wear these - and sure, he was 95 and frail but he wasnt living on his own.

Have I missed something - has no one from their entire families made any comment to the press or other friends about this whole accident? there seems to be a "wall of silence"?

I read the wife died of Hantavirus which is completely avoidable. Anyone who has camped, used a cabin or lives in rural areas probably knows this and how to handle this.
