German PoW Leaves Money to Scottish Village

My husband used to tell me about the POW who were in his hometown which was Aberdeen, they didn't seem to be tightly locked up many had jobs and it was said they didn't try to escape because they didn't want to go back

It was a fairly re;axed regime in the UK and we had hundreds of Italian prisoners working on local farms, never escorted by more than half a dozen or so girds.

We had a high ranking prisoner complex near us, and I can remember my father trying to explain about parole and military courtesy when I was shocked by British sentries presenting arms as the prisoners walked in and out of the fates quite freely!
