Former East Germany secret police agent charged in 1974 border killing of Polish man

The Polish man had entered the Polish embassy with a fake bomb so he would be deported. The Stasi initially agreed even giving him papers but decided to kill him at the check point. He was to be 'rendered harmless' and was shot in the back.

The long arm of the law.

I visited the Berlin wall back in the day. What a monstrous and stain on humanity it was. People forget that walls can both keep people out, and keep you locked IN. Even today you can tell just by the architecture that you've crossed the old divide......

Apparently in Germany one can't be prosecuted for an 'ordinary' murder after 30 years so they are using a 'treacherous murder' law that was in effect under East Germany. That had a death penalty but after reunification not likely

Ex-Stasi worker charged with 1974 East Berlin murder – DW – 10/12/2023

I also searching this that East Germans can't be prosecuted for most of their spy work during the Cold War. Have to wonder if this was sanctioned or local authorities just did it anyway.
