Germany still paying the pensions of Spanish soldier volunteers who helped Nazi Germany fight the Russians in World War II. By volunteering those soldiers helped prevent Spain from officially entering the war against Russia.

Some seem upset even though it was based on a 1962 agreement. During World War II/Era Spain was dictatorship ally of Germany I believe with Germany 'testing' weapons and tactics in the Spanish Civil War around 1936.

Why shouldn't they?

The UK still pays pensions to Americans who came over and fought for us in the two years before Pearl Harbour.

Oh I agree, that was the deal but some are upset I guess because they feel the soldiers were facists themselves.

Of course most of them were fascists, just as most of the Russians were communists.

You don't fight, volunteer to fight that is, for a cause in which you don't really believe.

That's why so many Italians surrendered in North Africa - they believed in il Duce, but not the concept of fascism.

(Anyone who thinks they surrendered from cowardice should study the exploits of their underwater charioteers and frogmen, a concept which they invented and became past masters at. )

While it's true that the Italians were the first to use this tactic in WWII, the actual concept goes back to ancient Greek times and was used in many of their wars.
