Get by with a little help from my friends

Yes, as you said, the amoxicillin could likely worsen the extreme IBS, which I have too, so I know first-hand, how terribly miserable it would be for a time. (but might be worth it)
I don't take it unless it's for a very good reason, and just the once in a very long time.

Nowadays, they believe that one week is sufficient, rather than the 10 days or 2 weeks they used to think was needed, so that helps me and might influence your considerations.

I can't take amoxicillin due to what it does to my stomach too :(

It sure does awful that way. I suffered through that, recently, and it was rough.
I don't know what other script might be more tolerable, that would be possibly offered instead.

What I was offered instead, I thought would be worse, and I was desperate, so I took it, and spaced it out fully 8 hours apart between doses (8am, 4pm, and midnt or somewhat) and I had lots of extra water. It did lower my pain levels.
(The script, thankfully, did not call for 4 times a day, nor to start out with a larger dose, as they did years ago.)

@Paco Dennis - It's well known that antibiotics kill healthy intestinal flora and mess up your gut, and you're already dealing with IBS. It's recommended in general to take probiotics when taking antibiotics to support the formation of healthy intestinal flora. If you do decide on taking the antibiotic, I highly recommend getting the probiotic + prebiotic Saccharomyces Boulardii. It will help. Usually, probiotics have to be taken separately from antibiotics, about four hours apart. Not so with Saccharomyces Boulardii. You can take it with the antibiotic if you want to.

"Compared to bacteria-based probiotics (e.g. Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, etc.) S. boulardii has the advantage of being naturally resistant to all antibiotics due to being a yeast.4

In fact S. boulardii is commonly used alongside antibiotics for the prevention of antibiotic associated diarrhea, helping to stabilize the gut ecosystem and restore microbiome normalcy more rapidly.7,8 "

I like this one > https://www.amazon.com/Jarrow-Formu...romyces+boulardii&qid=1657059893&rdc=1&sr=8-5

And I've also used this one, which can probably be found in your local pharmacy. > https://www.amazon.com/Saccharomyces-boulardii/s?k=Saccharomyces+boulardii

Thanks for that post, @Bella
I had considered asking for acidophilus (pearls? ) recently....
but I was not able to have someone shop for them for me.

Would that be the bacteria based type, that you mentioned?

Hi @Kaila :)

No, Lactobacillus acidophilus is a bacteria-based probiotic.

The excerpt below is from the article I linked in my above post. It explains the difference between bacteria-based strains of probiotics (acidophilus Lactobacillus, etc.) and Saccharomyces boulardii, which is derived from yeast, and how they work differently in the gut.

"Saccharomyces Boulardii vs 'Normal' Probiotics

Compared to bacteria-based probiotics (e.g. Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, etc.) S. boulardii has the advantage of being naturally resistant to all antibiotics due to being a yeast.4

In fact S. boulardii is commonly used alongside antibiotics for the prevention of antibiotic associated diarrhea, helping to stabilize the gut ecosystem and restore microbiome normalcy more rapidly.7,8

Additionally, a common concern about bacterial probiotics is the risk of probiotics sharing and acquiring antibiotic resistance genes with other microbes, which could potentially be passed on to pathogenic bacteria, possibly rendering antibiotics ineffective during an infection.

S. boulardii is incapable of acquiring or sharing antibiotic-resistant genes due to it being a type of yeast and not a form of bacteria, meaning that it poses no risks of contributing to antibiotic resistance in bacteria.1,3,9"

I was very sorry to read on another thread, about your terribly difficult night, last night, @Paco Dennis ...
I hope tonight goes better for you and Misa.
Thank you Kaila and all the rest that have been so considerate. I was just wondering about talking about what ails us. We are all in our older age and we all have physical and other difficulties we share, BUT this forum is supposed to keep things light hearted. I don't want to mess up that atmosphere by complaining about what ails me....so I was wondering what others thought about sharing our difficulties.?

When you get up in years, you're bound to have something that ails you in one way or another. I don't see anything wrong with needing to vent or seeking advice about our maladies. I like to think we're among friends who don't mind hearing about it and will be glad to offer help or solutions if they can.

If someone doesn't want to read about it or help, it's easy for them to just move on to another thread. As Kaila said, we have plenty of threads that have nothing to do with health issues.

I'm here to help you however I can because you're suffering. If I can add something that will help alleviate it, that makes me happy. :)

I had a good talk with my dentist of over 30 years. He wants to help me get this straightened out. He thinks the first thing to do is lower my ssri from 40mg to 35mg. To use Ibuprofen for the pain when needed. I will use Xlear and Saline nasal spray for my sinuses. I will be asking my Doctor today if he good with this plan. It will take about a week or more before the symptoms get relief on their own. I will post an update as this proceeds. Oh how life changes from day to day. I feel a little more optimistic about my future this morning. :)

That post sounds very good, @Paco Dennis
regarding the sensible help from your dentist. They do have a lot of knowledge to draw upon.
Also I am glad it lifts your hope some, too. That's why, as you helped to remind us,:)
we all,
get by with a little help from our friends!:D
