Getting medicine in bygone days

I remember when the doctor kept medicine in his office in big amber glass jars and, if you required anything, he'd give it to you right there. He'd put pills in a little paper box and write the directions on it. Now you have to get any medicine in a pharmacy.

I don't believe we ever had that here , if we did, it would have been before my time. I've never known a time when we didn't get meds from the Pharmacy (Chemist as it was always known then)

I go to the walk-in clinic a couple of miles away for things like bronchitis, sinus infections, earaches, etc. You can get basic prescription antibiotics and other prescription items directly from them for a very reasonable amount. You do have to pay cash to them and then it's up to you to wrangle it out with your insurance company.

I was brought up on military camps where the medical centre had its own pharmacy. The doctor gave you a prescription and you collected your medicine on your way out.
