Getting tattoos, are they addictive?

Not to me. I’ve yet to have any.
I don’t have anything against them. My husband has three large tattoos and my sister in law has one small one. I’ve got many friends who have them and it doesn’t bother me in the last. I just don’t want one.

My younger daughter got tattoos on both forearms after she turned 18. I was NOT happy; I think it looks unprofessional. However, she's now an RN working as an OR nurse, so apparently I'm in the minority. It doesn't seem to have affected her employment prospects. And she hasn't gotten any more—that I know of—so I'm thinking she's not addicted.

My older daughter got a small one on her left hip, which didn't bother me as much. Of course, both daughters are in their 20s, so it's not like I have any say in the matter.

I myself have never been tempted to get one.

I think that most people with a lot of tattoos look real ugly. Wait until they are in their 70s. Then they will look really terrible.

There sure are a lot of copy cats out there. People just follow the herd; like cattle!

well that can be said of any fashion or cultural practice - but I dont see that people getting tattoos show any more cattle like herd behaviour than anyone else

Having ink across your whole back costs a ton of money to have it done, and a number of visits to get it finished. The REALLY expensive part is having it removed by the use of a laser machine. It can only be done a couple of square inches per session, and the cost is a lot more than the tattoo originally cost in the first place.

yes, removal is expensive - however most people getting tattoos do not then get them removed so bit of a moot point really.

Did you know that the bible opposes tattoos? Check out the Levitical law prohibiting them. Leviticus 19:28 which says: “Do not lacerate your bodies for the dead, and do not tattoo yourselves. I am the Lord.”

While this sounds like a fairly clear condemnation of tattoos, you have to keep in mind the context of the Old Testament law. It’s fairly obvious that the prohibition against tattoos was directly related to pagan worship, just as the prohibition against graven images was.

But regardless of the original intent, nowadays, the old covenant ceremonial law no longer applies, as new covenant faithful and to say otherwise, is contrary to the whole message of the New Testament. For example, immediately preceding and following that verse about tattoos are prohibitions against a man trimming his beard and, (McDonald's, look away now,) eating red meat. Now, I recently enjoyed a steak, and I’m pretty confident I didn’t sin. I also regularly trimmed my beard, which also isn’t a sin, and when my hair started going grey I shaved the beard off. The sin of vanity, or what?

Maybe that’s why I got mine, I don’t believe in the Bible anyway but I did not know the Bible opposes tattoos.

DH was in the Navy but got no tatts, I also have none. Our son got one that now probably strikes him as silly, however as long as he is wearing a shirt no one would see it.

Tattoos look like bumper stickers on a rolls royce. Just tacky.

I can't imagine any image I'd want on me for more than 2 weeks anyway. Can you imagine having a tattoo of something we liked back in our 20s? It would be like living with dark wall panelling and orange shag rugs for decades.

I forgot that I got one, it was put inside my colon,
during a colonoscopy, by the surgeon, to mark a
polyp, that was being left till a later date, yes it is
still there, the tattoo, I saw it last year, but the polyp
is long gone.

Correction: my sister in law now has 4 tattoos 😱

No matter how professionally tattoos are done, I only see what looks like dirt or stains on the skin, and no matter how beautiful the woman in the evening dress may be, if she has tattoos, that's all I see.

After 66 years mine is not as sharp as it once was, but I will not be making any changes.
It is a sea horse which seemed appropriate for a then sailor.

lots of people do this - just because you don't have tattoos or like tattoos doesnt mean people who do are crying for help or need any help at all.

and of course any perceptions about tattoos are your own perception and prejudice - it doesnt suggest anything in real life.

Personally I hate tattoos. I think it's desecration. Tats are permanent, but things change. You might have a huge scrolled "Mindy" inside of large heart- your first love -all over your chest. But, now you can't come any closer to her than 100 yards due to the restraining order-but " Mindy" is still on your chest. And when you're 86, the staff at the home will wonder who was this "Van Halen" you have etched all over your back.
I think once you break the fear of getting a tat, #2, #3, #4, #5, etc are a lot easier to do.

Anyone who wants a tattoo should feel free to get one.

I should feel free to think they are ugly, moronic and a sign of low class, bad breeding, etc. But I keep my opinions to myself, except here.

Yes you are free to dislike them, think they are ugly etc

Seeing them as a sign of low class, bad breeding etc is different though - that goes past your own preference to making assumptions about other people... aka prejudice.
