Gird Your Loins & Prepare for battle

ok according to 'yahoo answers' women have loins. Now let me look up gird...

An expression pertaining to men only I Believe.

"Gird" is an Old English word meaning "barbecue", so "girding your loins" means having a cook-out with cuts of beef. Traditionally, only men worked the grills outside - womenfolk stuck with indoor ovens and stoves.

Phil, this time you aren't spot on. To gird one's loins in the olden days meant to tie up loose garments so that they wouldn't get in the way when working or going into battle or whatever all else.

It's an expression my mother used. Every morning, Monday through Friday, she'd say she had to gird her loins and sally forth to work.

My first husband was huge he used to beat me up every time I caught him cheating. I noticed while he was beating me that he always made sure his thigh was covering his bits. So one day I smacked him in the head with something hard and left.

The loins (or: lumbus) are the sides between the lower ribs and pelvis, and the lower part of the back. It is often used when describing the anatomy of humans and quadrupeds (such as horses, pigs or cattle). The anatomical reference also carries over into the description of cuts of meat from some such animals, e.g. tenderloin or sirloin steak.

Still.... I have lower ribs... a pelvis and lower back... I guess I would be able to gird them...
