Yes, Yes! I remember, that makes 18 for me.A cootie catcher, also called a paper fortune teller, is an origami game made from a square piece of paper where one person operates the cootie catcher while another chooses a color, a number, and then a final number to reveal a fortune, joke, or task.
I was introduced to a brown sugar sandwich by a woman I rented a room from. She had 5 kids, and qualified as poor, so it was something cheap her kids could eat. It was Just Bread Butter and brown sugar. It was tasty, if not healthy. I don't think I ever made another one after she made me one. It seemed unhealthy. But then, I still bought candy bars and ice cream on occasion, so it's not like I was a health nut.we used to make cinnamon toast which was toast, butter, sugar and cinnamon. I’m not sure if that counts as a sugar sandwich or not, maybe open faced? So, with all of my over-thinking, I’ve come up with 19, including the sugar sandwich.
Yep, we even made ketchup sandwiches. To expand on this, the things I have *not* done are played tetherball, ate bread & sugar sandwich (only sugar on the bread?!), clipped cards to bike spokes, can't remember riding in the back of a pickup, although on a wagon being pulled by a pickup for hayrides, absolutely, and made a cootie catcher... what the heck *is* that?!
Regarding #8: A blood brother/sister is a person who has sworn to treat another person as a brother or sister, sometimes with a ceremonial mingling of blood. A pin prick to one’s finger is how we did it as kids. Very popular back in the day!Once I saw the picture of the cootie catcher I could add that to my list (we made them but didn’t call it anything that I can remember)… I’m not sure why #8 is on the list. It’s not like we had a choice whether we had a sibling or not! Also, re #5… we used to make cinnamon toast which was toast, butter, sugar and cinnamon. I’m not sure if
Oh, sure do! Haven't thought of that in decades, but how excited I got knowing it was the day the teacher would be handing the new ones out!Do you remember the Weekly Reader? I added that so I could give myself another point.
Okay, Hawkie, this begs the question of which of the 20 you *didn't* do!19....
I like the way you did that, @MACKTEXAS! It provides more detail. Wish I'd thought of it.
Indeed! Mine was with my bestie at the time, Crystal. "Best friends and blood sisters forever and ever" as we did the blood thing. Uh... didn't work out that way, but thinking of it all these years later, I can't figure out why I wasn't totally freaked out about doing it! @spectratgRegarding #8: A blood brother/sister is a person who has sworn to treat another person as a brother or sister, sometimes with a ceremonial mingling of blood. Same.11 for me.
Mayonnaise sandwiches were a frequent snack at our house. And when Mom splurged and bought the "sandwich spread" that was mayo and pickle relish combined? RED LETTER DAY!Yep, we even made ketchup sandwiches.

I ate the sandwiches with butter and sugar... so maybe I'm only 19...To expand on this, the things I have *not* done are played tetherball, ate bread & sugar sandwich (only sugar on the bread?!), clipped cards to bike spokes, can't remember riding in the back of a pickup, although on a wagon being pulled by a pickup for hayrides, absolutely, and made a cootie catcher... what the heck *is* that?!
Ohhhh! Well in that case, I can up my score to 15. Never heard them called this, but played with them for sure. Thanks, Ted.This is the type of Cootie-Catchers that we would make and play with!!
