Glasses!

I guess I'm the odd man out. Had glasses since I was around 10 or 11. Progressively stronger lenses every year. Well, 4 years ago, while driving our motor home out west, I began to realize that I was taking the glasses off an setting them on the dashboard because they were making my head ache. Now, I don't wear glasses anymore, and my eye site is just fine. Oh yeah, that was the same time my eyes changed from green to blue. Go figure.
 

I've been wearing distance glasses since an accident in Junior High when 'something' (slingshot or BB) came out of the blue and turned my eyeball completely around. I was about 13 yrs. old .. thought I was blind. That eye has a much stronger prescription than the other eye. Tried hard contacts in my early 20's - couldn't get a good fit. I know soft lenses would work, but I like wearing glasses. They're a fashion statement.

Glasses however are just as expensive, but I have 3 pairs of each..distance, and reading specs... and of course my sunglasses.

I just had my eyes tested last month, no change in the prescription but I need to get new reading glasses because mine have tiny minute scratches on the lenses, even tho' I pay for non scratch lenses...annoying!! I'm thinking to give online retailers a try this time, otherwise my specs cost anything upwards of £300 every time...

I considered using online retailers but you need to give them measurements -other than the ones on your prescription -that allow them to make your glasses correctly.They aren't easy to do so I didn't bother.Non scratch lenses have never been that for me!
 

I was very nearsighted at birth. My mother wanted to think her kids were "perfect," so she didn't take me to an eye doctor until I was 8 years old - only because my vision was tested in elementary school when I couldn't read the blackboard. I thought all the kids saw what I saw but I wondered why they were copying stuff from the blackboard & I couldn't. It was sorta funny because the school nurse said, "Read the 4rd line on the chart." I said, "I can't read the FIRST line" (that big letter on the top that's usually an "E"). I had really stupid teachers who repeatedly accused me of "being lazy," & they'd send home nasty notes to my parents about how I "didn't want to do any schoolwork & what a bad kid I was." No surprise I had NO respect for teachers.

At the eye doctor, the doctor told my mom "He needs glasses." My mom actually argued with him, saying, "Oh, c'mon....he doesn't need glasses."
After more arguing, my mom said, "OK....maybe you're right....he needs glasses. BUT FOR HOW LONG?"
I'll never forget the look on the doctor's face - I could tell what he was thinking: "How can someone be that stupid?" He said, "He needs glasses all his life. Without them, he'd have to spend his whole life in bed...is that what you want him to do?"
 
I wear them for both distance and reading. As I'm on low income I qualify for free lens and frame. I generally go with the free ones for reading and pay a small amount towards a better frame on the distance ones. And I do mean a small amount!
 
Glasses since I was 14. Bifocals since I was about 40. Tried no-line, but they were no-go. Took them back and got regular bifocals. My computer glasses I got in Algodones Mexico. My sunglasses fit over my regular glasses, and I keep another pair in my swim bag.
 
I started wearing glasses when I was about 57, I wear progressive lenses. My eyesight hasn’t changed at all but I have gotten new glasses just because they were getting old.

I do go to the ophthalmologist every 3 months because of high eye pressure. I have prescription eye drops which keep the pressure normal.

Thankfully my insurance covers these visits because they’re not cheap!!

I was just recently put on another drop and this one is $80 after insurance pays. It’s one that can make your eye lashes grow...I’m still waiting...
 
Yes, for many years now. Tried contacts but like dentures, they and me don't mix. Lasik, no thank you, not an option for me. I change the frame style from time to time but yeah, it'll be me and glasses for the rest of the trip :cool:. Don...
 
I've worn glasses since about age 25. My then husband convinced me I looked real good and that was good enough for me to keep wearing them. My eyes have progressively changed vision. Getting an eye exam tomorrow.

It was back in 2013. My ophthalmologist friend, being a medical doctor himself (he was the go-to guy apparently for cataract surgeries and other eye surgeries) was well connected in the medical community here and knew who was good and who wasn't. He referred me to the doctor HE would go to if he needed anything. Dr. Wellesly was amazing. Other than a missing lower eyelid which I'm told is noticeable only if you're looking for it, I have only the faintest scarring even though he not only sliced down my cheek, he also took skin from the side of my eye to help with the reconstruction.

I found out later, from a couple of different clients (my clients are all rich, country club types, old money, from the richest part of town) that Dr. Wellesly is their go-to cosmetic surgeon, that EVERYONE goes to him because he's so good! I can certainly attest to his skill....you would never know I'd had extensive facial surgery.

The swelling and bruising and discoloration was largely gone in a month. 3 months later, at my checkup, Dr. Wellesley wasn't happy with a very slight pucker at the base of the incision line, 2 or 3 inches below my eye. It was barely noticeable, but he wasn't pleased, told me that anything less than perfect is not acceptable to him, and so took me in for more surgery to correct that.

Six months later there wasn't a trace. It was remarkable. Cancer free for 5 years now!!
 
I have a glasses fetish. It started in the eighth grade with Libby Hunter. When a woman wears glasses she instantly becomes twice as hot as she was without them.
 
I just wear gasses (from the $ store) for reading and the computer. I must have 112 pairs of reading glasses around here, but I always have to look high and low till I find one. I think they go the same place as the "other sock."

That’s amazing. He really did do a good job because I never noticed anything and would t have known until this thread. It’s good to have connections.
