Global Warming is here!

I have been absent from this forum for a couple of days because I have been devastated by the wildfires rampant in Nova Scotia at the moment.

Near a place where I was a pastor for three years, 151 homes have been destroyed or damaged! I hurt with the people who lost everything, including cherished pets! That's how little time they had because the strong winds gave them hardly enough time to evacuate!

Who says global warming isn't real?

Global warming is definitely real. Dangerous forest fires are rampant everywhere.
And this is just the beginning. Not even environmental groups harped on dangerous forest fires that much. It was all about climate change. An Earth that is 2 degrees warmer? No problemo. Anyone can handle that. Right? Maybe this is more serious than we thought. Ya think? Look for more things we didn't expect, and don't set your eyes on palm trees and more coconuts in the current temperate parts of the Earth.

The ship about global warming due to human activity has sailed.
And it's not coming back, and it's sailing too fast to catch up, even in our best speed boat. On our way to catch the departure, we took too much time stopping at the tavern, and making empty promises at G7 conferences blathering on about taking steps to slow it down.

The next act will be a concert featuring Nero playing his fiddle.

I am not "running for office", but I do not buy the global warming hypothesis. I know that our upper atmosphere is in fact cooling and that our surface atmosphere is warming. But, when I read articles on these contrasting facts, I find scientists are still not in agreement about what this all really means....so I am not yet on one of these 'band wagons'! Now as to either of these being .... I don't think they know for sure yet!

I find scientists are still not in agreement about what this all really means....
That will always be the case, but the vast majority of scientists agree that the earth is warming, and at least a part of that warming is manmade. There are some exceptions, but those are few and far between. How fast and what the consequences will be are the kinds of things where most atmospheric scientists have differing opinions.
I know that our upper atmosphere is in fact cooling
That is true, but it is not contradictory to global warming. In fact the models most scientists use predicted it would happen as a result of climate change. And the heat capacity of the stratosphere where the cooling is happening is much less than in the lower atmosphere where warming is happening. So a cooling stratosphere will not counterbalance the warming.

I don't believe so. The wealthiest politicians and ex politicians along with the unelected elites are buying ocean front property. I just can't see them doing this if the oceans were going rise and polar ice caps melt etc. They would be under water and they are not that stupid.

I think we can all agree as shown above there are issue with warming.......
how much is a natural occurrence how much is man made .....
perhaps if more people were around before ice age they would have fees and taxes and rallies to start more fires to keep ice at bay..:ROFLMAO:

I think if i saw items that made more sense ......like was mentioned before the ocean front property purchases etc....
years before forest management did more underbrush cutting and clearing etc..... now it is leave as nature intended well there were fires during the westward expansion too without controls etc.
I also think people had more respect for forests and such then current generations that do not feel they need to heed any warning or signs .......no fires etc more then half in my area were unattended campfires or improperly put out fires.

Two years ago in one state an Aide to a state official started 2 fires to help out a officials speech........ telling people so many fires were climate change issues ..........too bad aide was not aware of cameras on the freeway at least he had a first person experience with jails and prison he can advise on when his sentence is over.

The yearly Davos .....party? ... or conference on climate change with 100's of private jets so super wealthy can pat themselves on the back. do not forget a few years ago....... the celebrity headed to Davos that sent assistant back to California to get his lucky ties he forgot to pack.

In my state they used to have emission checks on cars/ trucks before renewing license but they disappeared no longer needed? OR too expensive for what it accomplished.

Also in my area People lecturing on public transportation and throwing millions at it ............but crime and homeless make it unsafe to ride....... so now near empty moving homeless hotels.

I did not know that, but it doesn't surprise me. Sea level is rising, 8 or 9 inches since 1880, not fast enough to have major impacts on waterfront real estate in our life times. So unless you plan to hold it for a hundred years or so waterfront is probably still a good investment. Actually sea level has been rising for thousands of years, Florida's Gulf coast was 100 miles to the west just 15,000 or so years ago.

Ocean front property would be a profitable short term investment, flood insurance would cover losses.

What a tragedy... it's excruciatingly painful to see people lose their homes, and their pets.. and even their freinds in some cases.

Unfortunately it's happening in many places.

In Spain there are fires every summer, all summer long. The Spanish as a generalisation, don't cherish their pets as we do, and the animals are either allowed to wander free anywhere they like especially in the mountain villages ..or.. they're chained up outside the house all day, so when there's a fire, they're often left behind.. which is just beyond heartbreaking to those of us who see pets as an extension to the family.

My daughter until last year lived in the Spanish mountains for many years , and there were fires on the other side of the mountain whch came perilously close to her Pet hotel and Boarding kennels.. . Her o/h on more than one occasion.. who was a dog trainer.. joined the firefighters on the mountain to rescue the dogs... and cats!!

This photo was the last one taken from my daughters' finca of a fire, getting too close to her property.. (and of course even when the fire didn't actually reach her side of the mountain..they still had to contend with the choking smoke)...., before she moved back to the UK>.

That's so scary and sad. Winds are especially scary because they move the fire so fast, and can change direction. Where I used to live there was a big fire with strong winds that traveled 70 miles in one day and destroyed a lot of homes. That was a very scary day. Our house was three properties away from the evacuation line.

I no longer wear the rose coloured glasses.
I’ve noticed all kinds of changes in this world and many of them seriously grave. More Forest fires, serious floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, mass shootings, species rapidly declining, viruses/ pandemics, inflation, depression , multiple genders, Genetically modified organisms …….

How could I not notice? Since the pandemic this downward spiral seems to be gaining momentum at a rampant speed and it’s scary. The only thing that gives me any relief is knowing we are ALL in this together.

Life is becoming more unpredictable each day that passes and this stress level will likely become the norm?

Never in my life did I ever think I’d be reminiscent about the good ole’ days but those days really were wonderful.
This past century I think was the best and we lived it. It’s not something I thought I’d be saying.

I’m also feeling guilty about being ā€˜the’ species the world would do better off without. I wish I’d lived my life as a dolphin or some type of bird.

People in Newfoundland didn't think so last year when Hurricane Fiona went through, Nathan! Many homes were simply swept away by the storm surge and oceanfront property disappeared along with them!

Even here in New Brunswick we are still clearing up our beaches and wooded areas! Nature is going wild on us! We've always had wildfires and remnants of hurricanes in our area, but both have become vicious because of the rise in temperature! Today's temperature is supposed to go up to 88 degrees! It will be a new record!

At the same time we had temperatures in late spring as low as -15 degrees destroying all of N.S. grape vines, also no plums, peaches, cherries this year! Nature is indeed going crazy all over the world, and here we still subsidize oil production!

That is so sad, and you are so right! Nova Scotia's Premier delivered a scathing attack yesterday, because despite wildfires burning in many parts of the Province, 6 people had been caught lighting fires in the woods!

Well if you ask those buried in the old tombs and Pyrimids
they would tell you that global warming is a real thing...cause
where they were buried was grassy, woodland, water and all that....but it all dissapeared!!!!!!!
You are right, of course, hawkdon, but that was nature at work! Many claim (wrongly) that today's weather extremes are just part of a natural cycle but our now filthy atmosphere is proving them wrong!

Global warming is definitely real. Dangerous forest fires are rampant everywhere. Nova Scotia is such a small forested province and most houses made from wood; it’s very sad indeed.
I always thought we would be better off if we built houses made of brick or concrete like they do in Europe (Norway excepted)! For one thing they would withstand hurricanes better, for another less people would die in fires. But what happened in Greece, Spain, South western France, Portugal last year proved me at least partly wrong! Yes, I have seen fires contained to one room when it took the voluntary firemen 20 minutes to arrive at the scene, but those vicious wildfires will find a way of getting in through busted windows and wooden doors!
