Global Warming is here!

I have been absent from this forum for a couple of days because I have been devastated by the wildfires rampant in Nova Scotia at the moment.

Near a place where I was a pastor for three years, 151 homes have been destroyed or damaged! I hurt with the people who lost everything, including cherished pets! That's how little time they had because the strong winds gave them hardly enough time to evacuate!

Who says global warming isn't real?

So frightening!

I am not "running for office", but I do not buy the global warming hypothesis. I know that our upper atmosphere is in fact cooling and that our surface atmosphere is warming. But, when I read articles on these contrasting facts, I find scientists are still not in agreement about what this all really means....so I am not yet on one of these 'band wagons'! Now as to either of these being .... I don't think they know for sure yet!
Global warming consequences are too complicated to make precise predictions about everything, but the physics and math involved are easily calculated by scientists, but scientists could not predict all the consequences. I was surprised when the tundras warmed and started releasing methane which added more green house gases to speed things along. The time line is not exact. I did not expect to see consequences in my life time. Until recently, events like the melting of the icecaps were not specifically identified as global warming, because they could have been climate anomalies. Scientists were cautious about that claim, but they did predict it would result eventually. Today we are beginning to accept these changes as a direct result of warming.

Even scientists in the fossil fuel industry predicted warming, but until a few months ago, their predictions remained buried and not available to the public. Believe it or not, it won't make much difference to anyone here. We will be long gone soon and unaffected.

I always thought we would be better off if we built houses made of brick or concrete like they do in Europe (Norway excepted)! For one thing they would withstand hurricanes better, for another less people would die in fires. But what happened in Greece, Spain, South western France, Portugal last year proved me at least partly wrong! Yes, I have seen fires contained to one room when it took the voluntary firemen 20 minutes to arrive at the scene, but those vicious wildfires will find a way of getting in through busted windows and wooden doors!
Concrete houses do considerately better with hurricanes, floods and fire and only cost 18% to 22% more than an average wood framed house. The average person can build their own home from insulated concrete bricks . The forms themselves are light . Once set the concrete is poured into the middle. It’s amazing technology.
Theyd save that in heating / cooling and insurance alone Hopefully people will start considering all the benefits. I shall pray for them all.

I don't believe so. The wealthiest politicians and ex politicians along with the unelected elites are buying ocean front property. I just can't see them doing this if the oceans were going rise and polar ice caps melt etc. They would be under water and they are not that stupid.
I am afraid they are! Why do you think we've had so many wars during our deplorable history! :( Florida's rich will have a huge problem, not in the immediate future, but it's coming!

People are the cause of their own doom. Buying an EV is just a smoke screen to cover the rape of the land by big industry, the military complexes and just plain too many people on this planet. It's going to be a rough ride to the end so hang on!

You got to love our local politicians. This was in connection with folks who did some burning despite the hot, dry weather with forest fires everywhere.

The N.S. Premier came right out and called a segment of the population stupid for flicking cigarette butts out of car windows, or burning things in their backyards in a strong wind and dry, hot temperatures!

Mayor Savage of Halifax also stated in tonight's newscast: You can't legislate out stupid but you can legislate in regulations!"

Would your politicians be that honest and blunt?

I'm so sorry. I've been seeing these wildfires on the news and was going to send a message to our Canadian members to see if everyone is safe. My thoughts are with you.

I was just in Miami visiting friends, and one of my friends is a City Commissioner for Miami Beach. She told me they have been raising the roads in Miami Beach due to the significant flooding. Rain clouds carry more water these days due to Climate Change. I can't see how anyone can overlook what is happening.

I don't think it's a matter of stupid or smarts. As long as there is a market, someone is going to profit off it. If the issue is that there eventually will be no market because it will be underwater, that overlooks other human factors, such as many people don't believe it will happen. Many just want ocean frontage, and believe it will be there long enough for them to enjoy. I could probably think of other reasons if I were as smart as the investors involved in the phenomenon.

Isn't that why most of us are NOT rich, we are blind to opportunities that others see as huge potential. And of course we may not have enough money to risk.

The weather phenomena we experienced last winter were very wet heavy snowfalls, very close to being rain. These were then followed by cold temps near or below 0F. The result was hard frozen layers of snow. With our record snowfall I went up on the roof to remove some of the weight, but I could not just shovel it off but rather had to cut a square off the top layer or two, as if I were cutting lasagna. I only took about 1/3 of the snow off, but that was quite a chore. And, the frozen layer covered our bathroom vent, resulting in water collecting and leaking in the ceiling. Also, many small trees were doubled over and frozen in place. Took hours to clear trails and my garden fence was ruined. It was a warm winter, but a miserable one. I would have rather had the regular cold dry snow!

I watch a YouTuber, Trent and Allie, that have built a new home in the mountains of Utah, they have had mammoth snowfall (up to the roof of a two story house) this winter, the snow is just now melting and now they are dealing with floods and washed out roads....just unbelievable trials.
In the last ten years, here where I live, we've had drought and excessive heat and high winds, many mature trees downed.
