We have been having crazy weather here for about five years. It will be excessively cold one winter then next winter very, very mild. This December (although not technically winter) has had temperatures from in the 70's to freezing temperatures with ice. Nothing surprises me anymore around here concerning weather. I liked it when we could actually count on what the weather would be like during each season.

There was never such a time RR ... it only exists in our minds. Storms, bad storms, storm surges, hurricanes, typhoons, cyclones, tornadoes, temperature fluctuations, cold, hot, unexpected variability are all part of the weather deal. The mainstream media has a lot to answer for; they play up every nasty weather event as an apocalypse.
