Go fund me...

I think GFM is a wonderful thing. No one is forced to support any thing they don't want to. Sure there are scammers they are scum. So what if someone starts one for less altruistic purposes. No one is forcing a donation. I have donated twice on GFM accounts. One for a young local couple that needed a car. Theirs had seriously broken. A wife two children and a "NEW ECONOMY" job. Pays enough to eat and put a roof over their heads but that is it. I happily pledged 50 bucks.
Another time was 20 bucks for a house fire relief.

As you stated, no one is required to donate...so why not?

The problem is, as i see it. It further teaches / supports a mantra of non self responsibility.........Can't make it on your own?...apply for this & or that program / dole. Maybe ask someone else to give of their own, so as to support ones own laziness , lack of self responsibility . I just think it is sending America further down the rabbit hole.

Ever since the flourishing of welfare , it has taken away from those that truly do need help , and 'provided' for those that only 'want' from others. Just another form of enabling .

So letting the young man lose his job would have been the thing to do? I have spent many the evening or weekend lying on my back in a puddle,or snow repairing a heap so I could get to work in the morning. I replaced the transmission in a , I think '72 Maverick on the side of the road. Shoved it straddle a ditch so I could get to it.
Point is I clearly remember how bleak and hopeless those days seemed, and if it is my means to help in some small way I will.

But perhaps....just perhaps...it was those evenings , those struggles that made you what you are today?

I see those go fund me's all the time on facebook, but have yet to contribute to one or anything else facebook pushes at me.

I prefer to donate to local fundraisers because then I know it is not a scam. I also donate to our local Salvation Army because very little $ goes to salaries and overhead. When people ask for $ to bury someone I often think did you not take that into life planning. also you can cremate someone pretty cheap.

I see them all the time for this and that......what i want to knew is where is the old carpenter relief funds?
