Going to start building food supply, plus storage shelves

Wife and I want to increase our food supply however, we have no place to store excess nonperishable foods. I prefer to have shelves built into the wall, but space is limited. A deep prefab closet might work if large enough. Another option is have something custom built according to design.

My wife is taking up canning again, other forms of preserving food include, freezing, drying dehydration, smoking, picketing, fermentation, salt and sugar curing,

I live in a big house by myself now. 4 bedrooms, 3 that have double closets and a huge walk in, in the main master. So plenty of room. I store some things in the closets but most of it is in the dressers and funiture in those rooms. Very easy to use and keep everything rotated and organized.

My old house had a nice pantry where I could store all my non perishables. It was great. I have a pantry closet here too, but use it mainly for storage

Living in the boondocks we have plenty of food on hand....in case of a major storm, etc. I built some shelves in the basement for canned goods, etc., and we have a full freezer and a spare fridge in the basement. I have a generator to supply electricity in case of a power outage. If there was a major problem throughout our area, we could probably have the entire family here, and feed them for at least a week...maybe two.

There is a storm possibly coming alright. Only it may not be weather related.

Shelves are useful. My garage is 24 ft X 40 ft, and it is entirely lined with shelves. I still have a little room, but it sure didn't take long to fill most of those shelves.

My planning horizon continues to shrink. When I was working I was planning 20 or 30 years ahead. Now, I have zero plans or concerns about anything that might happen more than 1 year out, and for most items, just a few months or weeks. And the idea of a stockpile of food, etc, is the opposite of where I'm at. I'm trying to get rid of stuff, not add stuff, and no desire to survive some catastrophic event.

YMMV

I do have extra food because I live in a remote area, but if something catastrophic were to occur I think I would give it all to a young couple with children who live near me and have helped me tremendously over the past decade.

Agreed!

Nothing wrong with stashing some behind a chair or on top of a dresser.

Sounds like "hoarding" is becoming some sort of hobby or passion with some folks. See the folks down below. They are ready for the last days on this planet. They know we are doomed and there is no help?
