Going to the theatre safely

I love theatre, especially musicals. They make you feel alive and happy. Recently I went to see one with a friend, My Fair Lady. I felt it was time to live a little again - take the plunge!

I must say though it was worrying how tightly packed we all were, long close queues for the toilets.
We are fully vaccinated including for flu. I used hand wipes a lot and the air filtration in theatres is said to be very effective. So I hope to remain well.

Are people now going to crowded events without ill effect and so is covid over? We hear no more about it on the news.

Rose65, like you I like I love live theatre and being unable to go during the Covid pandemic was a big disappointment. I'm now catching up and have been to four shows this year. I've had no problems health wise, and it's not being crowded in that's the problem, but leg room! I don't know where you live, but I have the choice of two traditional theatres, a smaller modern one and the larger music hall. I can't comment on the ventilation in other theatres, but it's seemed fine to me.

My last visit was last Saturday to a sell out performance of the Pirates of Penzance., so obviously people are happy to go to crowded venues.

I ve been to the Theatre 3 times in the last 3 weeks ,Im no longer as nervous as i was last year of catching Covid ..
although last Saturday while there a woman in a couple of rows in front of me called out Doctor, The Orchestra played on , then a scream went up and staff arrived , and the Orchestra played on.
Ambulance was called and Paramedic arrived and the Orchestra played on . I dont know what the outcome of that incident was but the Orchestra was very proffessional ..

I think if i had anyone at back of me Coughing then i would put my mask on , just to make myself less vulnerable .

Covid is probably here to stay, Rose, but the current strain is very mild and lasts only 3 or 4 days whether you've been vaccinated or not. Basically, we've reached "herd immunity" - when a society is protected against an epidemic because a sufficient number of the population is vaccinated or had a previous infection.

Crowded places have always carried a higher risk of getting communicable disease. Difference is since Covid we have become more aware.

Covid isn't over, and as @Murrmurr says probably never will be. However the risk of serious illness from it is probably down, and we have a much better understanding of it than we did a couple of years ago.

Deciding to go out to any public place is a personal decision, I go most places I have always gone. However since Covid I am being a bit more careful, not just to avoid Covid but to avoid the flu, colds, etc.

I'm not quite ready to go to venues with elbow-to-elbow people. Although I do plan to attend a few outdoor early-evening concerts this summer that are held near me, you're able to sit at a comfortable distance from others there. You can bring a picnic dinner and some wine if you wish, and enjoy live music in the open air. I'm looking forward to it.
