Last night, the programme 'trawlermen' featured a new trawler that I saw being completed at the Macduff shipyard, along the cost from where I live. This was the largest trawler built by the shipyard which specialises in building and maintaining fishing boats. The boat called Endeavour V, cost £8 million and needs to earn £100k each trip to pay for fuel, loan repayments etc.. The programme followed Endeavour V as it fished for squid in the Atlantic ocean off the Shetland islands. At the end of the trip, their haul was sold for £164k - good news for the crew who receive a portion of the profits.

It's a very tough life, but the crew do have some comforts when not working.
