Gonna stay up and watch the new year come in ?

Thanks Mike, I will try and watch it, I do sometimes get the UK on the computer. I remember my first New Years Eve over there as a Yorkshire Lass who came from a t total family visiting her soon to be inlaws in Aberdeen in 1958, I thought the whole city had gone daft but I married him in 59 anyway and would you believe he is the only Scot I ever met who didn't drink, oh and still married to him bless his heart.

Be up anyway. My GD s will probably be here but don't know if they'll make it that late. I'd love to have a drink but someone absconded with my good stuff last week. Said he'd pay me back. Yeah right!

Once in your life, you have to be in the crowd in Times Square. It was fun. You are roped into a square of about a 1,000 in a square. And each square has a cop standing by your square. We had a funny cop, we voted him the official cop of our square. You felt very safe. We were next to a sports team from Italy. All famous players in their early 20s, who spoke no English. Surprising how much you can mime. Of course they were playfully drunk. I saw Chris Noth, the guy from Law & Order. Whenever the lights were on your group, you were on TV, so everybody jumped up and down. The night I went it was about 20 degrees, but there so much body heat, it was rather warm. We were standing since 6PM. Really how long does it take the ball to come down. 10 minutes later everybody was gone.

dpwspringer, I am north of Atlanta and I know what you are talking about. Our dogs get very upset. We used to have a young couple in the cul-de-sac that must have spent $500 on fire works every New Years and 4th of July! I remember hooking up my water hose in July when it was so hot and dry and keeping an eye out for their fire works to start a fire in the pine islands around here!

The hubby and I try to stay awake, but New Years Eve isn't the same without Guy Lombardo. Usually it's a Happy New Year, a quick kiss, and a race to see who is going to make it to the bathroom first before getting in bed.

I'll be watching the fireworks display over Sydney Harbour on the TV but I will avoid all of the drivel the commentators feel they have to go on with in the lead up.

Nope, haven't in years. First Nights in the city were fun in my last "good" years, and house parties that lasted to the wee hours before that. Now it will be lunch with my companion and bed at the usual time...

Early night for me too.

I'm going out this morning to get a fresh bottle of Maraschino cherries with stems.

One nice Manhattan, coupled with all of the prescription drugs I take, will make for a nice quiet New Year's Eve.

We would like to stay up and mark the event but husband has to work both Sat. & Sun. so we will be in bed by 10pm. Like several others, though, we will probably be woken up by fireworks.

One year, when we were in the process of moving from Nevada to New England, husband had gone ahead to begin his job. He called us, just after midnight eastern time, to say he was "calling from the future!" The boys were so stunned by that revelation - we still chuckle about that.

Happy New Year to all!

I plan to spend the evening with a lovely lady friend for a good dinner and some drinks and dancing at a club to bring in the new year, neither of us want to be home alone.

This is the best New Year story thatr I have ever hear, I think that it is very funny, & True.

Mike.

Due to my work schedule I'm usually up until 3am anyway.

But who cares. Another year. Last year for some strange reason I felt a little hopeful for the new year. Now a year later and I'm still working the same job, haven't found a place to buy that works out and on another senior forum was told only thin and fit people should be doing my job. So what's it all for? And I'm killing myself and putting in mass overtime. But I'm not thin and fit enough.
