Good gifts other people might not think about giving

I think since Christmas is not far off ( as far as preparing for it goes) it's good to think about gifts for people. I like to give towels. Sounds boring I know, but towels always wear out & people always need new ones. They are not that expensive and people can always put them to use. So, my suggestion is-

towels

My go to is gift cards. An appropriate card with handwritten message and the perfect gift card. Then again a few bath towels in favorite colors would be right nice:D

You know, I have given the small embellished hand towels, the size I keep in my powder rooms for gifts. It's always nice to have seasonal ones, at least I think they are appreciated.

Yeah gift cards are good for people that live in the city. I live way out in the country and seldom shop in the city. Very rarely do I want to make a trip. My kids live in the city though & they love the gift cards.

Carla my aunt used to add crochet to those & I didn't even use them because I cherished them :)

I given a couple of animal shaped Himalayan Salt Lamps over the years and people really liked them. They give off a dim, subtle light and come in many different shapes. The ones I got were at a local health food store for around $30-$40, not too expensive. One was a tiny one that plugged into a USB port of the computer, and it changed colors with the glow. My nephew really liked that one. Plus, they're said to have health benefits when you use them in a room. The ones I got were more detailed than these, you can buy them in a lot of places. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_...malayan&ie=UTF8&qid=1478575608&rnid=371191011

I'm big on food, but don't buy the items already made up. Throughout the year I find baskets of different sizes on sale or even at garage sales. I have a supply of straw I get in the dollar store or craft shops. One time I made up an Italian basket. Pasta, sause, cheese, breadsticks, dressing for a salad, Italian cookies and wine if the people like it. My brother in law loves dried fruit. For this I used a pretty china platter, I arranged apricots, dates, candied cherries and pineapple, small boxes of raisins.A few wrapped candies. Covered it well with plastic wrap. Much fresher than the store bought.Sometimes I think they save it from year to year.

i've done baskets. I put together a tea basket with different teas, a loose tea holder, Small teapot and pretty cup. I also did a spa basket once with body creams and lotions, moisturizing mask, fuzzy sock slippers and a meditation CD. Both were really fun to do.

I've heard about those Himalayan salt lamps. I'll have to get one.

Ruth I LOVE to get baskets :)

Oh remember when they used to embroidery 'his' and 'hers' on pillow cases? My aunt sent me a gift after my divorce that made me laugh so hard. It was two pillowcases. One said 'hers' and the other said 'more for her' :D

An original way of showing support, it would made me laugh as well.
BTW, I've never considered towels as a gift, now I'm beginning to like the idea..

Another vote for giving food.

I used to enjoy giving foods that are produced locally or that are from local specialty shops. Things like real maple syrup with a bag of pancake mix, smoked bacon and kielbasa, cheddar cheese, fresh cut steaks wrapped in white butcher paper with a big red bow, etc...

These days it is mostly a few envelopes stuffed with cash.

When the snake charmer married the undertaker, they had everything labeled "hiss and hearse".

When we lived in AZ there was a sewing club. My wife made towels with all manner of things embroidered on them, using the embroidery machines. We still use some with bears and moose on them, that we had in our camper.

Best buddy expands on the goodie basket. He'll get an inexpensive purse with multiple compartments and put a bunch of surprises in each pocket. I love him because he themes it on the recipients interests. For me it will be a cat bracelet there, a funny magnet somewhere else, a dog t shirt in the middle, cat socks in another pocket. Plus the purse is pretty too:D

Am always thrown by a mention of a purse, and then remember it's really what we call a handbag ( a purse here is a small item for loose change, folding money and credit cards.);)

We speak different dialects of the same language.
