Hubby got his quarterly PSA results today... down 0.7 points from 6.9 to 6.2!! He goes to the urologist next week for his exam.. We can let out a sigh of relief...... until May...

We live 3 months at a time... This is why our decisions regarding Medicare and drug plans and supplements are so worrisome.. We don't want to make the wrong choice with cancer in the picture..

I went through this type of cancer with my ex, my brother, and now with my Honey's brother. They are all doing well although not without having to battle this enemy invading their bodies. I pray your husband continues to do well too and that our heavenly Father will always provide everything y'all need for this battle.

Wonderful news, QS. I hope the numbers continue to go down! What's the "normal" number?

For a man my hubby's age... 64.. The number should be less than 4.0. His was as high as 8.5... but is coming down and stabilizing... For now he remains in what is called "active surveillance" with a PSA and DR. check up every 3 months. We have made up our minds that if his PSA should go over 10 we will opt for a Robotic prostatectomy. From what I have read.. a PSA of 20 almost always indicates metastatic disease.. so we have no intention of getting anywhere near that.

Here's the depressing thing about hubby's case.. The PSA test is a double edge sword.. It's a godsend for men with aggressive disease that can be caught early.. But in Hubby's case.. his Gleason score is 6 (the lowest score and still be cancer).... and his DNA test on his tumor came back non-aggressive.. So here's the rub.. because we KNOW there is cancer there, we are almost obligated to go on this 3 month testing program.. Did you all realize that nearly 90% of all men over the age of 80 have this type of prostate cancer? Chances are that Hubby would have taken this cancer to the grave without every finding out about it, except for the PSA test. On the other hand... what if it were the really aggressive form...and finding it very early could have saved his life. Modern medicine has it's give and take..
