Google dropping support for early NEST thermostats

Google will no longer update the first two generations of these thermostats. Some functions will be lost.

Google's oldest smart thermostats have an expiration date. The company has announced that the first and second generation Nest Learning Thermostats will lose support in October 2025, disabling most of the connected features.

That means you won't be able to control them from the Google Home app or via Assistant (or more likely Gemini by that point). The devices will still work as a regular dumb thermostat to control temperature, and scheduling will remain accessible from the thermostat's screen.

So much for having a smart house. It’s stuff like this that keeps me using traditional methods of controlling devices in my home. Like on and off switches, and other time proven methods. I don’t need a toaster that has USB plugs and talks to the web.

But how else can you tell the toaster whether you like your toast dark or light?
🤔😁😄

Okay though, I do get the point.
All of these new systems are time limited.
Sheesh.

More and more in recent times Google has been renigging on it's business arrangements. In my view Google has abandoned it's standing as being a "responsible" corporate citizen.
