Got a double dose of bad news in last couple weeks

Just talked with my niece. Gerry is off the vent. Right side still very affected . He is aware of who is with him. Can speak a few words, but not clearly...
Julie may look into moving him to our area, so she can better be there for him. She is staying at his house now. Cleaning it up and getting paperwork together as she is his Proxy.

Glad to hear Gerry is off the vent. Sending lots of hopeful thoughts your way. From what you've posted about Julie's helping you in the past, she sounds like an incredibly loving and strong person. So thankful y'all have her and hope that Gerry stabilizes enough that she and your SIL can take that last trip together.

It's amazing what a lot of people who suffered severe strokes can do six months to a year out. Rehabilitation is a long, hard road though. The waiting to see where progress will top out is wearing for the patient and loved ones, especially in this situation with a family member who is dealing with cancer. Hugs to you all, @Marie5656

That's true, and based on what you said, Gerry is showing signs of very possibly recovering quite a bit of what he has lost.

Marie, I have a friend who is 95 and smoked for 60 years. She has had a couple of strokes and has completely recuperated from each one. Don't give up hope!

I'm so sorry Marie! I'm glad Gerry's surgery went well. Hopefully the paralysis will not be permanent. I will include your family in my prayers.

Gee, Marie it has been a rough few days. In times like this, I remember the line from the movie, “Shawshank Redemption.” Remember this?

“Remember Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. I’ll be here hoping that your family gets well.” (A little ad-libbing added.)

Well, Gerry is now in rehab. He is fussing and complaining about them getting him up to exercise and walk. So, yeah...he is fine. LOL
