Got this e-mail from a friend.

Warning from Police DON'T SEND IT BACK PASS IT ON This is the thing these days, with people out of work and needing cash (mainly for drugs!). Beware, it's headed your way. Just last weekend on Friday night we parked in a public parking area. As we drove away I noticed a sticker on the rear window of the car. When I got home and took it off, it was a receipt for gas. Luckily my friend had told me not to stop as it could be someone waiting for me to get out of the car. Then we received this email yesterday: WARNING FROM POLICE: THIS APPLIES TO BOTH WOMEN AND MEN. BEWARE OF A PIECE OF PAPER ON THE BACK WINDOW OF YOUR VEHICLE (A NEW WAY TO DO CARJACKING!)(NOT A JOKE!) Heads up everyone! Please, keep this circulating. You walk across the parking lot, unlock your car and get inside. You start the engine and shift into reverse. When you look into the rearview mirror to back out of your parking space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window. So, you shift into Park, unlock your doors, and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view. When you reach the back of your car, that is when the carjackers appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off. They practically mow you down as they speed off in your car. And guess what, ladies ? I bet your purse is still in the car! So now the carjacker has your car, your home address, your money, and your keys. Your home and your whole identity are now compromised! BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED.If you see a piece of paper stuck to your back window, just drive away. Remove the paper later! And be thankful that you read this e-mail. I hope you will forward this to friends and family, especially to women. A purse contains all kinds of personal information and identification documents, and you certainly do NOT want it to fall into the wrong hands. Please keep this going and tell all your family and friends!-----

The ideas these crooks come up with ! Pity they don't work that hard at getting a ' proper ' job .

Oh dear can`t believe how many people can fall for this HOAX email,it has (and similar) been floating around for years.

Given that there are no credible reports of such crimes occurring in any of the targeted nations, forwarding this email seems counter-productive. Alerting all your friends about a non-existent car-jacking crime wave by emailing them a factually spurious “warning” is unlikely to be at all helpful. In fact, in our already crime-plagued society, perpetrating false warnings just spreads unnecessary fear and alarm.

Hoax emails of this nature can also tie up valuable police resources because police personnel have to field numerous inquiries about the status of the messages.

These messages should be deleted rather than forwarded!!

This e-mail went viral back in the early 2000's. Could it happen? Yes, but we have received dozens of calls about this e-mail, none of which were true. It is now posted on the viral e-mail warnings list of pretentious viral e-mails that the police use as a reference when callers call in asking about such a threat. The other e-mail that is also circulating is when carjackers will put a fake $100 bill of the back windshield of the victim, so that when they look in their rearview mirror and see it, they will exit the vehicle. That e-mail is also fake.

Carjackers are still using the old techniques of bumping their victim's car from behind so that they get out of the car, following a car home and then blocking it from behind, etc. Same old stuff. Just use common sense and be careful out there. Our suggestion of not stopping for any reason, unless the driver pulls into a well lighted gas station or in front of a police station still applies. It's a dangerous world we live in, so we all need to be vigilant.

Robert 59 , thanks for that warning , I've copied it and posted onto another forum here in the UK ;)
this is a crime that's been going on for ages.. we first came across it in Spain about 20 years ago..it was rife there with a certain ethnic minority who come from a nearby country , behind most of it... it didn't take long to come here... and it's a particualrly horrible crime, because often it's older people who are targeted..

If you check Snopes, this hoax has been going around since at least 2014. Some involved a slip of paper, others a $100 bill.
actually it's not a Hoax we personally knew 2 different people this happened to in Spain and many more were reported in the media.. Usually happened in Supermarket car parks particularly underground ones..

I think the moral of all of this is to be aware of your surroundings and people near you, especially in parking lots while loading up your trunk; and don't leave your purse sitting in the child seat part of your grocery cart while you turn your back loading groceries. I see this all the time and I just want to scream at people DON'T DO THAT!! Don't make yourself an easy victim.
