That could be called the "pre-internet era".

Yeah, in our day, people were only in a frenzy and paranoia over communism!

For instance, in this case. No one here would even know what was happening to Spanish thermostats. Now if someone in Lower Slobovia sneezes, we all say Gesundheit.
