Hello, I'm a newcomer and thought I'd introduce myself. I'm 60 and working full-time, but sooo ready to move into a 55-up community. I live in Philadelphia but I want to move back to NJ, where I was born and raised. Everyone tells me I'm crazy to want to live there, but I still want to do it regardless. I've found many of the topics on this forum very interesting and hope I can contribute to them.

Hi Linda...from London England...

Welcome aboard!
My wife and I are also planning to move into an Independent Living Complex for people over 55. We are in our 70's right now, but looking ahead to what the next decade may bring has convinced us to simplify our future.

These over 55 complexes come in a wide range of flavors. In our case, we are going to move into one that includes, apartment cleaning, linen service, all meals, and transportation. If I have to leave the planet before my wife, I don't want her to be rattling around alone in this big house cooking for one and having to deal with home upkeep and all those other issues.

I recommend that you visit several of these places well ahead of your move. I saw a lot of very contented senior people in the one we like, and the food was delicious.

Hi Linda & welcome. I'm from the "Great White North" (Canada). I can give you the Canuck slant on things here. By the way, don't let anyone tell you where you should or should not move. It's your life! Live it to the fullest. I have been surrounded by nay sayers all my life. That didn't stop me driving a motorcycle in Europe for months or going around the world or back packing Africa in my 60s. Live your dream. Lawrence Welk had this song that said: "It's later than you think".

Hi Packerjohn, I just made my first trip to Canada in June with my daughter. We're really big horse racing fans, so we planned the trip around visits to Woodbine, Mohawk, and Ft. Erie tracks, with stops at Niagara Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake and Toronto. We drove from Philadelphia up through New York, and also stopped at Finger Lakes. All in all, a vacation to remember!

Welcome , Linda! I hope your plans and ideas work out great for you!

In the meanwhile, you can hang out with us,
and then, IF you want to ;)
you could take us there with you, if/when, you move. :)
