Hi, I discovered this forum when searching for a place to discuss retirement, retirement communities and lifestyle choices for senior living. I hope to learn a lot about how others have chosen to live their "golden years" and to discuss various options with more experienced retirees.

A little about myself and my husband: we've been retired for a little over a year now, we live in San Francisco but want to move somewhere with a lower cost of living, we are also looking for a private house with relaxing outdoor space, and somewhere in the western half of the country.

Since you're a couple and newly retired I'm guessing you're healthy and able to maintain a private home for many years to come, especially where it doesn't snow.

Me, I couldn't handle snow shoveling, mowing, raking, gutters, etc, so although I had to give up my flower gardens, I bought a small condo. I don't LOVE it, but the landscapers do all the hard work, so I feel safe and contented.

The only other thing I can think of to offer is to check out the medical facilities in whatever city you're looking at.
