Grocery store parking lot was packed

It's just been announced that we're going into Tier 4... only hours notice that all non essential shops, gyms etc will all close until further notice..

Just 2 days ago the PM put us in the South of England into Tier 3 stating we could all have a 5 day Christmas in family bubbles, the pubs and restaurants would be open.. .. everyone was excited, went out and bought food for the 5 day period to celebrate in their homes , and arranged to see elderly relatives, many for the first time since March... in just 48 hours it's changed , and no-one is permitted to visit family or another person's house at Christmas. You can imagine how furious and upset most people are ..

The PM announced this at 4pm this afternoon... many people who are employed hadn't even shopped for Christmas gifts or food yet, believing they had 5 days to do it when they had time off.. now they have until Midnight tonight to get it all done, so you can imagine how packed the retail carparks are tonight ( it's coming up to 8.30pm now)

I heard about this change a bit earlier. I thought is was dangerous to lift the lock down for that 5 days in the first place, but that's jmo.

Now, you have a mutation to contend with and I heard it's fast spreading! People are angry I can imagine but better than dying or causing illness or death to other.

I agree with your last part RR... I'm not concerned for me personally, and I thank you for your well wishes , but I feel for the people who were excited to see their elderly parents in care homes whom they'd not seen or been able to touch in 9 months or family members who are so ill this will be their last Christmas...

Aas for the 'change'...we went from Tier 2.. to Tier 3 in 2 days being told all along we'd be able to have the Family bubble Chritmas.. and then would probably have to pay by having the whole of January lockdown ... so going from Tier 2.. then tier 3, with those promises in place and then in one day change to tier 4.. is just astonishing.. especially to people who liive in small country towns and villages as we do here, who have next to no instances of Covid in our area much less this so called mutant...

The numbers of those infected with this virus have shot up substantially in the past couple of weeks, probably due to the Thanksgiving family dinners. I fully suspect the numbers in mid January will go even higher as even more people have their Christmas celebrations without trying to follow the guidelines.

Hospitals and health care workers are already at their limits....another spike will put them in dire straits. Until these vaccines are widely available, and the majority of the populations get inoculated, there will be little or no decline of this virus.

As a result, many locales may be forced to go into lockdowns, and grocery store shelves will, once again, become empty.

thank goodness we don't have thanksgiving here....
 
On Sunday morning it was quiet at the grocery store. I even used self-checkout so I didn’t have to stand in line behind two full carts. When I returned in the afternoon to do an exchange, there were still lots of parking spots. This never happens any weekend, let alone the one prior to Christmas.
 
I felt blessed to live in a town with so few cases, at last count was under 5 in a population of approx 103,000 so we were not under lockdown.

Now our premier has ordered a province wide lockdown beginning Boxing Day which means swarms of people from the surrounding cities under lockdown now have decided to come to our city to shop and dine.

I can see our numbers skyrocking because of this and our small hospital will not be able to cope. Last time I vote for that man.
 
Everyone is coming in from other areas outside us to shop. No parking spots in the mall and lineups are horrible. NO, I wasn't in the mall or lineup, I was driving by after dropping off library books. We are in lockdown beginning Boxing Day, Dec 26. I only need to go out to drop and/or pickup son(s) to and from work (grocery store). I feel sorry for the premier who can't seem to make up his mind. We should have remained in lockdown when it first started and STAYED THERE until there was NO new cases. Sigh...
 
My son took me grocery shopping yesterday and after 10 months of being liked like and animal in a cage in my assisted living facility, my legs nearly gave out. The store was mobbed and it is a huge one I can tell you. I finally gave up and came home. Not good. Now I have to go for a new coat today at Nordstroms. That's it. I just am not used to this anymore.

we have a similar positive covid-19 cases number as you Lee... but we've been put into our 4th Lockdown because we're only 20 miles from London, which has a huge number of infected cases..apparently. ... we have no idea when this lockdown will be lifted, only that Boris will review it at the end of the year....so yet again everything except Supermarkets are closed.

I went shopping to three stores on Sunday and none were that busy. It surprised me that Walmart was not mobbed on the Sunday before Christmas. In and out pretty quick for me. I cannot shop very well in a crowded store.

I particularly hate grocery shopping, so when there are crowds there which there are now because no other non essential shops are allowed to be open... I cannot stand it. Thank goodness I already am stocked up with food....
 
My heart goes out to all having to go through yo-yo type restrictions.......yes one day, no one day.
Our code red lockdown in Manitoba, Canada was enforced almost three months ago and still remains.
Spikes in positive cases, mainly due to some population not abiding........sad.
We will remain under strict lockdown for sure, for 90 more days.
Just because we will be receiving vaccines, the guard cannot be eased........
Some think, get a shot, free right after.........not any way near.

Any non essential shopping is done online or curbside........and will continue as such.

Please all......STAY SAFE and WELL.
 
In a semi-rural, eastern stateside area, the grocery and deli-type stores were packed this day, with vehicles cruising about trying to find parking spaces. I went for a haircut yesterday, and was asked numerous questions before seated about my health, any CV symptoms, and potential exposure. Indoor restaurant dining is prohibited in my state until January...

And, of course, even though the stores were packed, everyone was still able to maintain that magic 6-ft. distancing. :ROFLMAO:
