Groundhog Day - February 2nd

Another silly American observance. How can a rodent predict the weather so far in advance when people with scientific instruments can't always get it right? Just one of those fun things, I guess. America's "official" ground hog is Punxsutawney Phil, who had his burrow in west central Pennsylvania, and is correct about 40% of the time. Other towns have their own GHD traditions, too.

To be correct about 40 per cent of the time is bad. Perhaps they should get a new groundhog :ROFLMAO:

Wiarton Willie is the name given to a Canadian groundhog who lives in the community of Wiarton in Bruce County, Ontario.

“The story of Wiarton Willie datesback to 1956. A Wiarton resident named Mac McKenzie wanted to showcase his childhood home to his many friends, so he sent out invitations for a "Groundhog Day" gathering. …......
Wiarton Willie himself is a more recent addition to the festivities. In the early years, prognostication was provided by the "mythical" trio of groundhogs Grundoon,Muldoon and Sand Dune. Willie appeared on the scene in the 1980s.….......
The original Albino Wiarton Willie lived to the advanced age of 22, and was found dead only two days before Groundhog Day in 1999. ….....”

My cousin looks down upon the festivities from the top of the cliff from the home of my uncle who for many years produced commemorative badges to celebrate the event!!

I once saw Phil unload his bladder on the handler and some guy flip off the crowd when the prediction was six more weeks of winter. They managed to cut that stuff out of the broadcast later but if you watch everything live at the beginning you'll see some weird stuff sometimes.
.
I've never seen Phil and maybe this would be a fun thing to do in the future before I die. Winter is not my favorite season. If Phil gave a shorter winter weather prediction, he would make me a very happy woman. It's worth the drive down south to see him. :giggle:

It started as Celtic, which is also silly.
