Group Homes

I don't know for sure, though I know someone who lives in one for developmentally disabled. Not sure if he could move out but he is out on the street because I run into him every now and then.

I would think maybe she can leave if she wants. I belong to a group on fakebook that is for parents of mentally ill adult children and that is something they talk about. Their child getting into a group home and then moves out and there is nothing the parents can do about it.
 
A person would have to be legally committed to a psychiatric institution/hospital to be restricted from leaving. Group homes don't fall into that category. One of the biggest problems in pych. is people not taking their meds as prescribed. I'm quite sure you've often heard your girlfriend complain about her medication. It's understandable. There's no bars on the windows, and the doors open in a group home, but I urge you to ask your girlfriend to give it a try.

Yes I have told her to give it a try because my health is not good at all. Might end up in a nursing home myself from all the stress I've had to deal with for the last seven years.

I would think she would be allowed out in the company if someone that could keep her safe. They would need to pick her up and bring her back. The whole point of her being there is to keep her safe. Dementia, for every person is different. A person can do something that they think is safe/fine but in reality puts them in a great deal of danger.
 
Robert, does she have family? Certainly this is a lot to put on you decision wise if your health is not the best.
