Gunman kills 12 at 'Dark Knight Rises' screening in Colorado

I live near there, and have gone to that movie theater in the past. Lots of talk on the news, not sure of all the details. I heard there was a 3 month old baby there, that I think was killed. It made me angry that someone would even bring a young baby like that into a movie theater, due to the loud speakers, etc. It is sad, don't know what set this kid off to do that or what he was thinking. I wish these people would just do away with themselves, and leave the innocent folks alone. Yes, I heard it was a 6 year old girl killed. :(

I too am trying to wrap my head around many of the things that have happened within that incident. My heart goes out to you SeaBreeze that you and your community have to find healing in the wake up such violence. Ironically, when I heard about the baby my first thought was who takes a 3 month old to a theater (same with the 6 yr old being at a midnight viewing).

It bothers me that he was able to access the theater through the emergency exit door and my thoughts are these: 1) there was indeed a second person who let him in and posed as a victim to get out 2) the theater was lax in checking to make sure no doors were propped open (it could be that he went to an early show and propped the door - but aren't they hooked to alarms?) and finally 3) the door was unlocked and he knew it would be which means the theater did not have proper security, and again aren't those doors hooked to alarms?

But like 95% of the people who are "dealing" with this have no clue what truely happened and to irresponsibly place blame does not help in the healing process. Again I am sorry SeaBreeze.

They said that he might've bought a ticket and entered the theater as a normal customer. Then he propped open the door, which was an exit door with no alarm, and left to change into his gear in his nearby car. Then he re-entered and started with the tear gas and shootings. Thanks for your concern, I'm just grateful it wasn't me or my husband there. They haven't released the names of all the 12 people killed, so I don't know if there's anyone I know, but there are also many injured and a few in critical condition. We had the Columbine school shooting nearby a few years back, people are going crazy. I wonder if this kid was on any anti-depressant drugs, that doesn't help.

As more information comes out it seems clear to me that he intended to take many more down, while being a coward with all his protective armor. They have this young man in solitary because of fears for HIS life though...ironic. I am usually not a believer in capital punishment but acts like these make me grateful that we have that option; and grateful that Colorado has it and will most likely use it. Although it will cost us much more to house him on death row maybe the suffering he will endure is better than the actual sentence itself.

This was just such a tragic event. Soon any place that gathers 50+ people is going to have to have mandatory metal detectors in place. Imagine what our world will be like in 50 years? It isn't going to be pretty. :(

I agree Bob. Because of this Colorado mad man, and others like him, the only place we are going to feel safe is in the comfort of our homes. It is sad that our Homeland Security has to protect us from American "terrorists" more than any other :(

I heard there has already been copycats too. It is sad that people can actually idolize and emulate such a horrific action!

A very sad thing is the mother of the 6 year old girl that was killed is still in the hospital in critical condition after having a miscarriage from the trauma of the event. She has not yet been told that her daughter is dead, even though she keeps asking about her when she's able to speak a few words. The daughter is at the funeral home awaiting burial until her mother is well enough to be told and can attend the funeral. :(

This was one of the strangest and also most tragic mass killings in U.S. history.
