Guns on the Moon

Maybe I'm wrong, but since there is no oxygen to ignite the primer and powder, would a traditional pistol or revolver fire on the Moon? It made me wonder after I saw a TV show and an enemy agent was threatening someone with a handgun on the moon. Also what was funny is that every movement they made produced sound. An atmosphere is needed to carry sound.

Good question. When the hammer strikes the primer it....well, I'll let Wikipedia take over:

The identifying feature of centerfire ammunition is the primer -- a metal cup containing primary explosive inserted into a recess in the center of the base of the cartridge. The firearm firing pin crushes this explosive between the cup and an anvil to produce hot gas and a shower of incandescent particles to ignite the powder charge

Instead of stand your ground laws they must have stay on the surface laws on the moon.

Sounds like a bullet would fire since it's a chemical explosion/reaction with in the bullet itself. Same reason bullets would fire underwater(they did on Sea Hunt I think)

This is just too inane to start a Monday for me...
