..and what if his parents are of the same mind as him ..in their hatred for the intended target ?... it's very likely..... but they'll never admit it now...

Most laws require that a COURT declare a person mentally unfit. Cannot just be his family members of doctors that say that. The COURT must say it.

he could simply have taken one of the guns belonging to his parents... none of us know anything at all at the moment..it's all wild speculation

FACT: There are more guns that people in America. (PLEASE do not respond with the old arguments of “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.”) And yet, if this young man had a knife or a crossbow, he’d have to get through a sea of fans and security to get to his target.

The long-distance aspect of the AR-15 kept him safe long enough to really hurt and kill people. And he is NOT the first one who has used that weapon precisely that way.

If we see a PATTERN with this particular weapon, maybe We the People should DO something about this particular weapon and its cousins?

Holly, we cannot start putting people in prison for their FEELINGS.

If we did that in America, about 1/2 of us need to go to prison right now because one-half of us really despise one candidate for President, and the other half really hate the other guy!

We need House Arrest for 100,000,000 voters. And which court will decide which of us will have to stay home on Probation until we change our attitudes? LOL.

Any long gun could do what was done. Is your answer to eliminate all long guns in the country?

Hang on..where did I say somebody had to be put in Jail for their feelings ?..*huh *... ? You're making your own story up now.

My comment was to say he doesn't necessarily have to have had mental illness as you seem to have decided he did...it simply could been a familial Hatred of Trump......

I was a Kennedy guy and when I heard about a shooting on the radio, I never heard the name and I immediately thought, "Don't tell me the Kennedy curse has hit again."

It reminds me of when Ford was shot by Squeaky Fromme and Reagan was shot by John Hinckley.

I wish I wasn’t on here reading about this yesterday either. Normally I don’t watch the news but the headline caught my eye.

There was a lot of speculation on here about what happened and much confusion . I certainly was confused.

At first I thought it was staged but the more info brought forward, the more I realized it was for real.

Thomas Matthew Crooks, the 20-year-old would-be assassin who shot Donald
Trump, has been pictured for the first time just hours after he was shot and killed by the Secret Service.

The registered Republican and 2022 high school graduate opened fire at the former president with an AR-style rifle from a roof 130 yards from the rally stage in Butler, Pennsylvania , on Saturday at 6.15pm.



Crooks' uncle Mark Crooks told DailyMail.com he hadn't seen the gunman or his parents in years, and described them as 'very private'.

'I haven’t seen that part of my family in years,' he said. 'Honestly it's been so long I don’t think much about them

'It’s a shame. The kid is like a stranger to me. They’re private and they don’t reach out to anybody any time.'
His father, Matthew Crooks, 53, told CNN he was trying to figure out 'what the hell is going on' but would 'wait until I talk to law enforcement' before speaking.

Law enforcement sources told CBS News that Crooks, from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, had been armed with 'an AR-style rifle'.

During the attack, he appeared to be wearing merchandise promoting one of YouTube's most popular channels devoted to firearms - Demolition Ranch - NBC News reported.

I grew up believing that our nation is great, and deep down I still believe that. The overwhelming majority of people in our country believe that, and it is evident in the number of those who wish to come here. Unfortunately, that small contingent that thrive on hate and derision stand out without deserving of the goodness of our country.

There are more cars than people, too, but not all of them are in a garage or driveway.

Only about 44% of Americans own a gun, and fewer than 20% of those own an AR-style rifle (per registration records).

Not a big deal, but "more guns than people" is misleading.

Because they get so much publicity. That's my opinion. Journalism isn't what it used to be.
 
This young man will get that brief time in the spotlight. Talking heads will vilify those who counter their opinions. That is what drives a opinion cycle gaining momentum till it morphs into an unholy alliance of evil. In the mean time a misguided young man and a spectator are dead, with two more fighting to live. And the spin is only beginning.

His parents can hate a Presidential candidate all they want and so what? Do you want a list of all the Presidential candidates I have not liked? I will not post that here, because that’s pure politics, whereas I believe this thread has been determined by the Mod as discussing a major news story.

Unless the FBI finds there was some conspiracy in the family, like parents bought the gun and paid for sniper training classes, we cannot condemn his parents for any of their feelings.

This is why the Right to Free Speech is so enshined in the states. We get to say, “I love that and I really hate this” here. I know in Europe the laws are a bit different. For example, I know in Germany pro-Nazi language and groups are completely banned. Illegal! They are, tragically, still legal here because of those Rights of Free Assembly and Free Speech.

I know our guns laws or lack thereof drive much of the developed world crazy too, but this is why some Europeans throw shade as us Americans when we travel across the pond. We are pretty noisy overall and many of us love guns. Not all of us.

It’s like we’re not presentable in polite society. 🤷‍♀️ What can I say?

One of the parts of watching Downton Abbey I loved so much was when the Americans would visit. Hahaha. Such bad manners.

It's been said this guy Maxwell Yearick sure looks more like the shooter than Thomas M Crooks
Yearick appears to have ear gauges and I can't tell if the dead guy on the roof has an ear for that or not
But looks like he might, by that crease in the right earlobe

But AR is a trick label. Most people think the AR stands for Assault Rifle. It doesn't. It stands for ArmaLite Rifle. An AR is not designed to assault people, it's designed for rapid repeat fire with lightweight cartridges and without heating up and/or splitting the barrel, or any part of the gun for that matter. A lot of guns are designed for rapid repeat fire, and a lot of them are handguns.

Just a note: Ford was not shot. Squeaky didn't even have a round in the chamber.
