Guy Who Invented the Cassette Tape Had One Big Regret.

Philips engineer Lou Ottens, dead at 94, said he wished Philips, not Sony, created Walkman

Sad news today for anyone who ever recorded a mixtape off the radio (complete with DJ interruptions and cut-off songs) or knows what this picture means. Lou Ottens, a Dutch engineer who invented the cassette tape, has died at the age of 94, per NPR. Local media reports Ottens died Saturday in Duizel, in the North Brabant province.

I used to have a 7 inch tape recorder. I still have several of the little cassettes with some old songs on it.

In the 1980's, cassettes were King. I enjoyed making my own mix tapes off fave songs on the radio, and then playing them on my car cassette player. The "Guardians of the Galaxy" movies embody a wonderful tribute to the music and technology of this time, as the character of "Star Lord" still uses his working Sony cassette player and tapes. But the advance of technology is ruthless; cassette players yielded swiftly to CDs and their players, and now digital music reigns. I still have many of my old cassette tapes, and some of them still play on my few remaining functional players...those were the days!

Aww, the guy, who invented cassette tapes has 1 regret., The poor dear. Let's see, I had a fortune invested in records, but hey, there's this new two track cartridge tapes. I REGRETTED all that vinyl. Then, there's this new 4 track cartridge tape. I REGRETTED buying that 2 track player/re order. Then there's this new tape cassette. And yup, I REGRETTED buying that 4 track player/recorder. Then there's these new discs. I REGRETTED buying a cassette player/recorder. You know what's coming -MP3. I REGRETTED............
The guy , who invented cassettes, has only one regret. My regrets keep on piling up. Grrrrrrrrrr.:)

yes we did too..lol... and how frustrating it was when we'd get to play it once or twice, and the darn tape would break...or how many times did it jam and we'd have to get a pencil to unjam it..?:D It's incredible to think how far we've come in less than 50 years
I did that too! Thanks for reminding me. :ROFLMAO:

I'll never regret the albums I bought as a kid and as teen. The album cover art was so incredible. Cassettes and cds cannot come close. As for mp3? 🤗

...and you would have to ask everyone in the room to be quiet, otherwise the machine would pick up their voices too.

I used to make cassette tape music from the radio. :giggle:
Me too. I used to travel all over the world with a compact and sturdy radio/cassette recorder. I'd tune in a station, push "record" and let it run until the tape ran out. Back home I would listen to it over and over again.
