Gym Membership?

There are now a few health care companies advertizing on TV that, in addition to regular Health Care, also offer Vision, Hearing, Dental, Prescription Drugs,
and now even Gym Membership!

Gym Membership?

I would much rather have a Country Club or a Bowling League membership, where I can enjoy physical and social activities without the sweating and straining of Gym activities. This might be OK for gung-ho muscle builders, but not for easy-going Seniors!

(Here's my "no-sweat" home "gym")

I kind of agree with you. I think if I went for a gym membership at all, it would be the Silver Sneakers one that seems to be more geared to us old coots.

I belonged to a gym for a couple of years and enjoyed going there when I was in the mood to use their weight machines and exercise bikes, treadmills, etc. Even did a few Silver Sneakers classes and Zumba classes. I never signed up for another year once my contract ran out, because I didn't go there that often and didn't want to pay the membership fee. Now that I'll be on Medicare soon, it seems I'll get free membership to the local gym and Silver Sneakers program, I'll definitely take advantage of that because it will be of no cost to me, and I won't feel obligated to go any more often than suits my mood and time.

Exercise bikes can be set at any level or difficulty of use, so good for all ages, same with treadmills, etc. Good to get your heart pumping and lose any extra weight that may cause diabetes and other problems, and working up a sweat now and then is healthy and removes toxins from the body. My husband has a weight bench at home and various hand weights, but the modern machines at the gym are a nice change of pace.

We have the fitness membership along with our Medicare Advantage plan. Ours is the Silver and Fit; but some companies have the Silver Sneakers one instead, so it just depends which company you have your Medicare plan through.
We both just love our membership, and usually go at least every other day, often more.
Our membership is through the hospital wellness center, and besides all of the exercise equipment and weights, it also has a wonderful swimming pool, hot tub, steam room, and sauna.
My husband prefers working out with the weights and training machines. I have used the treadmill, and the exercise bike; but my main thing is the swimming pool. I swim and do water exercises for an hour every day that we go, and then we meet back together in the steam room afterwards.
We have had the membership about a year and a half, and it is one of the things that we both look forward to, and one of the best benefits of our Advantage plan.

Good to know that you're going to the gym with your husband Happyflowerlady, my hubby has no interest to go, so I'll be on my own if I do. That's okay though, I usually just spent an hour or so there when I did go, and always felt great afterwards.

I have a Silver Sneakers membership with my Advantage plan. I can go to any gym I want to, as long as it accepts the Silver Sneakers plan. What I'm trying to say is that I am not limited to just one I can go to; I can utilize one gym for one thing and another for something else.

There's a nice little gym down the road from me that I joined right after retiring. I like to go there early in the morning about four times a week. Mostly what I do is cardio to get the old pumper a going, then some free weights followed by a lot of stretching.

I don't try to push to hard, just a little wake up thingy for the morning. Been going for three years now, met some nice folks and I think it's doing me some good.. :p

What do you mean "unnecessarily" hard?

Didn't you mean "excessively hard"?

Hey IKE, Aunt Bea, and Falcon:

I hereby apologize for being critical of HazyDavey's misspelled word.

It's just that I pride myself in my perfect spelling and my ample vocabulary, leading to well-written posts, and find it easy to notice the imperfections in others, which I will admit that I shouldn't. As a Grammar-school student, I always won every spelling bee!

I was not trained in English, but my Daughter has Masters degrees from two Universities, in English Literature and Creative Writing.

She has used her skills in writing four books, for which she receives regular royalties, and is now, at my suggestion, contemplating her first Novel! If her spelling and usage of English were not perfect, her Publishers would have rejected her manuscripts!

So I'll just recognize that you folks don't attach much importance to spelling, and I'll just be glad that you're nice people!

Your Grammar Nazi,
Hal

Well that's Mighty White of Ya!!!!!
sheesh could you be any more conceited?

It appears to me that Hal did a fine job of both apologizing and explaining ( for a little tease that is usually overlooked on here), and now it HAS turned into a big deal, by several other people who seem to be missing the idea of “being polite”.
Kidding someone about a little grammar mistake is something that most of us have probably all done, or being kidded about one, it happens all of the time.
Just sing another verse of “Grandma Got Run-over by a Reindeer” , have a piece of fruitcake, and be happy again.

==============================

Fine if you play Golf. I'am in my mid 80's and we go to the gym to get out of the house and to talk to other "old" people. During the summer I work at home..lawn..garden..home repairs.

We get gym membership with our Medicare Advantage plan.

PS We have a gym in our basement with a rowing machine and a stationary bike that I use when roads are bad.
