This is the gym I belonged to when the Jerk was living with me.

And he continued paying my membership dues after he left, but I quit going 2 yrs ago...but he could always just renew without paying the registration cost.

Now I'm thinking I want to go again and I'll pay the monthly dues myself but don't want to pay the other fee.

So that means I will have to call him which isn't such a good idea....I've looked at other gyms in the area but this is close and pretty good except that it has too many young people hanging out.

What do you want to do there?
classes, personal trainer, combination, your own programme?
will you keep it up?
bother the youngsters.....go at a different time, they should have jobs!

You need to find something you want to do.
i went to a gym for about a year in my younger days; but because there was nobody to push me, and I didn't enjoy it that much, I didn't benefit a lot, and stopped going.
i joined a yoga class 18 months ago now, and I love it!
Most people there are older than me, and I don't have time or energy to watch everybody else, but I have to do as I am told, so I do much more than I would at home...and still enjoy it!
think about what you would really like to do first...
swimming, tennis, martial arts...

That is what I mean.......you need to find something you want to do, and enjoy; talk to Phil.

I belonged to a great new gym a quarter mile from home many years ago. Ninety bucks a year! After getting some waves before dawn would hop on my bike to zip down there for strength training and a few laps in the pool followed by a nice soak in the jacuzzi. Then, the crowds came. Nuts! No more sweet deal for this guy.

You know the toughest thing about working out was the pretty women in their skimpy outfits all perfumed up and strutting their stuff. I actually would close my eyes and try to ignore them.

When the gym was brand new it was almost empty in the early morning. I owned that pool. Until the crowds came . . . They chased me away.

Just joined a Bally Fitness Gym for $239 for two years, 10 bucks a month was what I was going for. They have the pool, hot tub, sauna, Zumba, Tai Chi, Step aerobics, etc. I mostly wanted the treadmill, elliptical, and little bit of the weight machines. Have gone to a Zumba and Tai Chi class so far though.

Not too crowded at all if you avoid the late afternoon/evening after-work crowd. Also, most people just wear sweats and t-shirts, nothing too skimpy to be seen there. Cee, if it were me, I wouldn't ask the jerk for any favors whatsoever.

I liked it, am going again to the Friday class. It was very informal, mostly seniors in the class, and taught by a Vietnam Veteran, nice fella. I went to some Tai Chi Chuan classes a long time ago when I was younger, and liked it very much. Good for relaxing, stretching, balance, strength and overall well-being.

Our SifuPhil is an expert teacher of Tai Chi, and he has written a book he wrote especially for seniors https://www.seniorforums.com/showthread.php/2654-T-ai-Chi-for-Seniors. I haven't read it, but I have great respect for him and his accomplishments in the world of martial arts.

Work out at home. No need for an expensive and crowded and obnoxious gym.

I give up sooner if I am on my own; lack of motivation!
that is why I started yoga, I am forced to attempt all of it; except shoulder stands. I just can't do shoulder stands!

Don't need equipment and the motivation comes from within; finally actually wanting to begin . . . day by day until it becomes a wonderful habit.

As you know I attend gym 3 times a week. Find a more reasonable
one and go there. Why do crowded gyms bother you ?
This never affects me empty or crowded just getting some machines
like my ab machine sometimes tied up a bit.

They just opened a LA Fitness here in Melbourne,Fl.
DAMN that place is big with 2 pools too.
All they need now is a few slot machine for CeeCee.

Make sure you'll wipe the sweat off those machines or Ill send Elaine from the Seinfeld show to deal with ya AND dont near Goesge while he is in the gym's shower.

Walking is excellent exercise. We take the dog on a 2 mile walk in the park daily, and if I can squeeze in an additional walk alone, I do that. There's a hiking trail behind my house that goes through a wildlife area, and it's measured 1 1/2 miles each way on the trail, so going from my house is usually 3.3-4ish miles total, and when I'm energetic and walking at a good pace, I can do it in 70-75 min. Of course now that I joined the gym, I've done a similar walk on the treadmill.

I have a step at home for step aerobics videos, have a couple of old Reeboks that I really liked and used a lot years back. Latest CD I got was a turbo-jam, some parts are good, but I don't like too much kicking, my form is way off now that I'm older. Haven't had the enthusiasm to do those workouts at home for a long time...but they are effective when you make the effort.

Still doing a bike ride on some days when the weather's nice, but not often enough. Anything to get the ol' heart a pumpin'. ;)

The problem right now with walking is of course the -11 degree wind chill and the icy sidewalks. Luckily I have my Taijiquan practice that keeps me flexible and toned, but it's not the same as getting outside.

Yet another reason for moving to Florida; I know you Floridians are having a bit of a cold snap right now, but your "winters" are still far shorter and far less severe than ours. I want to go outside in January and do "Fair Maiden Works The Shuttles" while love-bugs attack me. :playful:

You know the best thing to clean bugs off your car, put a couple of desertspoons of Bi Carb Soda into a bucket and put some warm water in stir then apply to car using a towel or cloth leave for about a minute and wash off, it won't harm your duco i used it weekly on my Audi A4 and it didn't harm the duco, i found that one in the manual for my other car a Magna.
